Sjarhej Karnejeu ( Belarusian Сяргей Карнееў , Russian Сергей Корнеев / Sergei Kornejew, English Siarhei Karneyeu ; born November 24, 1988 in Minsk , Belarusian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Belarusian boxer . Karnejeu was a silver medalist at the 2008 European Championships , a bronze medalist at the 2011 World Championships and a participant in the 2012 Olympic Games .

Career

Karnejeu celebrated his first success at an international championship in 2008 in the light heavyweight division (-81 kg) by winning the bronze medal at the student world championships. In the same year he also won the silver medal at the European Championships where he lost in the final against Oleksandr Ussyk , Ukraine (11: 2).

In 2009 Karnejeu took part in the World Championships , but already lost his first fight against Hrvoje Sep, Croatia (16:10), and the European Championships in the following year were not crowned with success for him, as he was already here in the first fight against Boško Drašković , Montenegro (7-2), eliminated.

In the 2011/2012 season Karnejeu fought for Los Angeles in the World Series of Boxing and remained undefeated in three fights.

In 2011 Karnejeu switched to heavyweight (-91 kg) and reached the quarter-finals after two victories at the European Championships , in which he was eliminated against Johann Witt , Germany (28:26). In the same year he also started at the World Championships and won after victories over Deivis Julio, Colombia (25:14), Michał Olaś, Poland (26:14), in the round of 16 over Julio Castillo , Ecuador (25:13), and in the quarter-finals over Chouaib Bouloudinats , Algeria (AB 3rd), and a semi-final defeat against Oleksandr Ussyk , Ukraine (23:10), the bronze medal.

With this success Karnejeu qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games , in which he narrowly failed to Teymur Məmmədov , Azerbaijan (+19: 19) after beating Julio Castillo , Ecuador in the second round (21:12), in the quarter-finals .
