The Iran took place in London at the 2012 Olympics in part. It was the 16th participation in the Summer Olympics. The National Olympic Committee of Iran nominated 53 athletes in 14 sports.

Medals

With seven won gold medals, five silver medals and one bronze medal, the Iranian team finished 12th in the medals table .

Note: As it became known in August 2016, the Kazakh Ilya Ilyin , who had already sneaked the gold medal at the 2008 games with the help of doping agents, also competed with doping in 2012 and thus also came first. He was disqualified by the IOC and was stripped of the 2008 and 2012 gold medals. The second-placed Russian Alexander Ivanov was also doped, as was the third-placed Moldovan Anatolii Cîrîcu , who was convicted of a follow-up test in September 2016 and is now a three-time repeat offender after 2007 and 2015.
It has also been clear since September 2016 that fourth-placed Russian Andrei Demanow , sixth-placed İntiqam Zairov (so far, however, there has been no official withdrawal by the IOC from Zairov, there is only one official withdrawal for the 2008 placement at Zairow) and seventh-placed Kazakhs Almas Öteschow were doped. This means that the fifth-placed Iranian Saeid Mohammadpour , the eighth-placed Korean Kim Min-jae and the ninth-placed Pole Tomasz Zielinski have good chances of medal ranks. However, Zielinski himself tested positive for doping substances at the 2016 Olympic Games . As in the past, the international committees could decide in this case not to award new medals in order not to honor a doping offender afterwards.
