The Iran participated in the 1960 Summer Olympics in the Italian capital Rome part of a delegation of 23 male athletes in 24 competitions in five sports.

It was Iran's fifth participation in the Summer Olympics since 1900 .

The youngest athlete was wrestler Mansour Mehdizadeh at 22 years and 19 days , the oldest athlete was wrestler Yaqub-Ali Shourvarzi (36 years and 121 days).

Flag bearer

Weightlifter Mohammad Jafar Salmasi carried the flag of Iran during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .

Medals

With a gained silver and three bronze Iran's team finished 27th place in the medal table .
