Iceland took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in the Italian capital Rome with nine athletes, eight men and one woman, in eleven competitions in two sports.

It was Iceland's sixth participation in the Summer Olympic Games since 1912 .

The youngest athlete was swimmer Ágústa Þorsteinsdóttir at 18 years and 132 days , the oldest athlete was the track and field athlete Pétur Rögnvaldsson (26 years and 135 days).

Flag bearer

The hurdler Pétur Rögnvaldsson carried the flag of Iceland during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .
