Peter Ronson , actually Pétur Rögnvaldsson (born April 22, 1934 in Iceland , † January 16, 2007 in Orange County , California , USA ) was an American athlete and brief film actor of Icelandic origin.

Life

Ronson was a passionate runner in his youth , so that he was accepted as a decathlete in the Icelandic national team. He, who won many national awards as a result, was soon afterwards recruited from the USA, especially from the University of Southern California . With the help of a scholarship, Ronson moved to the USA with his three children Lisa, Pétur and Kristina.

Here, film producer Charles Brackett became aware of Ronson, who cast the 193 centimeter tall giant in 1959 for his film The Journey to the Center of the Earth .

Although Ronson later received other film offers, he shied away from the media hype about himself and remained loyal to the sport. He represented Iceland only one year after his excursion into the world of film in 1960, at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome in the discipline of athletics .

He married again on November 14, 1970. With his wife, Marie George-Ronson, a native of Denmark , he had two more children, sons Brian and Stephen, who are now general practitioners.

Peter Ronson most recently lived in California, where he died of natural causes in January 2007 at the age of 72.

Sporting successes

At the European Championships in 1958 he was ninth in the decathlon. In 1960 he retired from the Summer Olympics in Rome in the 110-meter hurdles after 15.2 seconds in the run-up.
