Argentina took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome with a delegation of 92 athletes in 54 competitions in 15 sports. Most of the athletes were men, the only woman was the water diver Christina Hardekopf , who also acted as the standard bearer at the opening ceremony.

Participants by sport

Boxing Boxing

Abel Laudonio won the bronze medal by reaching the semi-finals in the lightweight. Three more boxers made it to the quarterfinals.

The fencers did not play a major role in the medal contest. In the team competition, the saber fencers took 9th place.

Soccer Soccer

The Argentine selection lost their first game against Denmark 2-3. The following encounters against Tunisia (2: 1) and Poland (2: 0) could be won, but this was no longer enough to survive the preliminary round. The most goals were scored by Juan Carlos Oleniak, he scored four times.

According to the official Olympic report, Christina Hardekopf was supposed to take part in the 3-meter jump, but withdrew before the competition began. According to SportsReference, she took part, but finished 18th and last place in the qualification and was eliminated.
