Argentina took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome with a delegation of 92 athletes in 54 competitions in 15 sports. Most of the athletes were men, the only woman was the water diver Christina Hardekopf , who also acted as the standard bearer at the opening ceremony.

Juan Rolón competed in the welterweight division, Julio Graffigna in the light heavyweight division. Neither of them finished in the top ten, but they did better in the freestyle competitions than in the Greco-Roman style competitions.

Luis Nicolao competed over 100 meters freestyle and 200 meters butterfly, Fernando Fanjul also over 200 meters butterfly and Pedro Diz over 100 meters back. None of them reached the final.

In the Gulf of Naples the dragon boat Argentina secured one of two medal successes, you only had to give up Greece. In the 5.5 meter class, the brothers Carlos and Enrique Sieburger junior and their cousin Roberto were close to another medal with 4th place.

The only participant was Juan Caviglia . In the six individual disciplines he did not get beyond the qualification. In the individual all-around competition, he finished 116th.
Water polo
In the first game of the group stage, Argentina did not get more than 1-1 against the selection from neighboring Brazil. This was followed by defeats against the Soviet Union (4: 7) and Germany (1: 5), whereby Argentina was eliminated from the tournament after three games.

Diving
According to the official Olympic report, Christina Hardekopf was supposed to take part in the 3-meter jump, but withdrew before the competition began. According to SportsReference, she took part, but finished 18th and last place in the qualification and was eliminated.
