Norway took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in the Italian capital Rome with 40 athletes, 39 men and one woman, in 39 competitions in eleven sports.

It was Norway's twelfth participation in the Summer Olympics since 1900 .

The youngest athlete was the javelin thrower Unn Thorvaldsen at 17 years and 208 days , and the oldest athlete from the sailors Øivind Christensen (60 years and 324 days).

Flag bearer

The hammer thrower Sverre Strandli carried the flag of Norway during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .

Medals

With a gold medal won, the Norwegian team finished 21st in the medal table .
