Giuseppe Delfino (born November 22, 1921 in Turin , † August 10, 1999 in Palazzo Canavese , Province of Turin ) was an Italian fencer who won four Olympic gold medals and two silver medals with his sword.

At the age of 30, Giuseppe Delfino first took part in the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 . He won gold with the Italian epee team around the individual winner Edoardo Mangiarotti .

At the 1956 Olympic Games , he won his second gold medal with the team a week after his 35th birthday. In the epee singles two days later the curious situation arose that three Italian fencers, Carlo Pavesi , Giuseppe Delfino and Edoardo Mangiarotti were tied after the final with five wins and two defeats each. After the first round of the playoff, each of the three had a win and a loss. It was midnight when Mangiarotti lost twice in the second playoff. Ultimately, Pavese won gold from Delfino and Mangiarotti. In retrospect, we know that three fencers met each other in a play-off, who should also win the individual title in epee fencing one after the other.

At the age of 38, Giuseppe Delfino had his greatest success at the 1960 Olympic Games . He won the playoff for the individual title against the British Allan Jay . Three days later, the Italian team also won gold in the final against the British.

At the end of his career, Giuseppe Delfino was allowed to act as the flag bearer of the Italian Olympic team at the opening ceremony of the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. In the individual competition he no longer reached the final round, the team lost in the final against the Hungarian team and won silver again.
