Rubén Dario Limardo Gascón (born August 3, 1985 in Ciudad Bolívar ) is a Venezuelan sword fencer and Olympic champion .

Life

He is a student and trains at the Polish club Piast Gliwice . His younger brother Francisco also fights internationally.

successes

In 2005 Rubén Limardo won the Frankenland tournament , a men's epee world cup for juniors. He is a four-time medalist at the Pan American Games in 2007 and 2011 . At the Pan American Championships in 2008 he won silver in Santiago de Querétaro , in 2009 he won silver in San Salvador , 2011 in Reno (Nevada) and 2012 in Cancún .

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he was a member of the Venezuelan sword team, which came in sixth. In the individual competition he was 23. Four years later, at the Games in London, he won the first Olympic gold medal for his home country since Francisco Rodríguez in 1968 and the first fencing medal for Venezuela at the Olympic Games at all. In 2013 Limardo won silver in singles at the World Championships in Budapest .
