Francisco Rodríguez (boxer, 1945)

Francisco Rodríguez (born September 20, 1945 in Cumaná , Venezuela ) is a former Venezuelan boxer .

In 1967 Rodríguez won the Pan American Games in Winnipeg in the light flyweight division and was also able to prevail at the following Pan American Games in 1971 in Cali , Colombia . His most significant success as an amateur boxer came at the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968 when he won the Olympic gold medal awarded for the first time in the light flyweight class (up to 48 kg). He defeated the Cuban Rafael Carbonell, Khata Karunatarne from Ceylon , the American Harlan Marbley and in the final Jee Yong-ju from South Korea .
