Shamil Altayevich Sabirov
Shamil Altajewitsch Sabirow ( Russian Шамиль Алтаевич Сабиров ; born April 4, 1959 in Karpinsk , Sverdlovsk Oblast ) is a former Soviet boxer .
1978 Sabirow took part in the amateur world championships in Belgrade , but failed by a first-round knockout in the preliminary round. In 1979 in Cologne he became European light flyweight champion at the age of 20. In the final he defeated the representative of the GDR , Dietmar Greilich. He then took part in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and won the gold medal in his weight class. At the European Championships in 1981 in Tampere he reached a third place, where he was defeated in the semifinals to the Bulgarian Ismail Mustafov . In 1982 he failed again in the preliminary round of the World Cup in Munich .
