Zhou Shiming (also Zou Shiming or Zhou Shi Ming ; born May 18, 1981 in Zunyi , Guizhou ) is a Chinese professional boxer and former WBO flyweight world champion.

As an amateur, he was three times world champion and twice Olympic champion, making him the most successful amateur boxer in the history of sports in China.

Career

amateur

Zhou Shiming was an amateur light flyweight boxer. In Asia he won the silver medal at the East Asian Games 2001 in Osaka , as well as the Asian Championships in 2004 in Puerto Princesa and 2007 in Ulaanbaatar . He defeated among others Amnat Ruenroeng and Birschan Schaqypow , one of his defeats he suffered against Pürewdordschiin Serdamba . He also won the gold medal at the Asian Games in Doha in 2006 and in Guangzhou in 2010 , beating Suban Punnon, Jasurbek Latipov , Amnat Ruenroeng and Birschan Schaqypow, among others .

At the 2003 World Championships in Bangkok , he defeated Yan Barthelemí , Rudolf Dydi and Harry Tañamor , before he was eliminated in the final against Sergei Kasakow 19:23 and won silver. He also won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 . After victories against Rau'Shee Warren , Endalkachew Kebede and Aleksan Nalbandjan , he lost in the semi-finals to Yan Barthelemí.

He then remained undefeated in major international events. He won the World Championships in Mianyang in 2005 and the World Championships in Chicago in 2007 , the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , the World Championships in Baku in 2011 and the 2012 Olympic Games in London . He defeated Lukasz Maszczyk , Salim Salimov, Yan Bartelemí , Scheralij Dostijew , Pál Bedák , Constantin Paraschiv, Birschan Schaqypow (3), Dawid Airapetjan (2), Paddy Barnes (3), Nordine Oubaali (2), Harry Tañamor , Juan Medina , István Ungvári, Mark Barriga , Kaew Pongprayoon (2), Shin Jong-hun , Eduard Bermúdez , Pürewdordschiin Serdamba and Yosvany Veitía .

He is also the winner of the 2004 World University Boxing Championship in Antalya and the 2010 World Combat Games in Beijing.

professional

In April 2013 Shiming played his first fight as a professional and won it against the Mexican Eleazar Valenzuela. With his fifth victory in the fifth fight, he won the intercontinental title of the WBO in July 2014 against the Colombian Luis de la Rosa . After another elimination match, which he also won, Shiming competed in March 2015 against the Thai Amnat Ruenroeng in a fight for the WBO world title. He lost this fight, however, with 3-0 judges votes (three times 111:16).

Subsequent victories against Natan Coutinho and Jozsef Ajtai gave him another chance at the WBO World Cup in flyweight and defeated the Thai Prasitsak Phaprom unanimously on points. In his first title defense he lost to Shō Kimura on July 28, 2017 .
