Ivailo Marinov , a native Ismail Mustafow ( Bulgarian Ивайло Маринов * 12. July 1960 in Varna ) is a former Bulgarian boxers in the light flyweight . He belongs to the Roma people .

He is one of the most successful boxers in this weight class and among other things was Olympic champion in 1988, world champion in 1982, world cup winner in 1981, and European champion in 1981, 1983, 1989 and 1991.

Career

After becoming Bulgarian champion in 1980, he then took part in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . There he defeated Gerard Hawkins and Ahmed Siad, before he was eliminated in the semifinals against Hipólito Ramos and won bronze. In 1981 he won the European Championships in Tampere after beating Antti Juntumaa, Dumitru Șchiopu, Schamil Sabirow and Dietmar Geilich . In the same year he also won the World Cup in Montreal by beating Juan Villalba, Hipólito Ramos and Heo Yeong-mo .

At the 1982 World Championships in Munich , he came through victories against Agapito Gómez, Efren Tabanas and Heo Yeong-mo in the final and beat there in the fight for the gold medal Go Yong-hwan. In 1983 he won silver at the Challenge Match and gold at the European Championships in Varna, where he had defeated Henryk Sakowski, Beibit Jeschanow and Salvatore Todisco . At the 1983 World Cup in Rome , he defeated Salvatore Todisco, but then retired in the semifinals with a bronze medal against Beibit Jeschanow.

In 1985 he won the Balkan Championships in Sofia and reached the final at the European Championships in Budapest , which he lost to René Breitbarth . He had previously defeated Neil Duddy, Vedat Tutuk and Róbert Isaszegi .

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he was able to prevail against Mark Epton, Henry Martínez, Alexander Machmutow, Leopoldo Serantes and Michael Carbajal and become Olympic champion. In 1989 he won the Challenge Match in Casablanca with a final victory against Róbert Isaszegi and won again at the European Championships held in Athens after he had won against Paul Weir , Petrică Paraschiv, Jan Quast and again against Róbert Isaszegi. At the 1989 World Championships in Moscow, however, he was defeated this time in the preliminary round against Róbert Isaszegi.

In 1991 he won the European Championships for the fourth time in Gothenburg . He was able to prevail against Leszek Olszewski, Rafael Lozano , Pál Lakatos and Luigi Castiglione.
