Pürewdordschiin Serdamba ( Mongolian Пүрэвдоржийн Сэрдамба ; born April 18, 1985 in Ulaanbaatar ) is a Mongolian boxer . Serdamba was Asian champion in 2007, world champion in 2009 , silver medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games and bronze medalist at the 2011 World Championships .

Career

Serdamba first made a name for himself when he won the silver medal in the light flyweight (-48 kg) at the prestigious international chemistry cup in Halle in 2006 . The following year he achieved his breakthrough by winning the Asian Championships and defeating world champion Zhou Shiming in the final with 12: 7. As the current Asian champion, he went to the 2007 World Boxing Championships in Chicago but had to admit defeat to the Russian David Hajrapetjan in the first fight . This was the beginning of a form crisis, because even at the 1st Asian qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games 2008 he could not prevail and lost in the quarterfinals. Only at the 2nd Asian qualifying tournament did he make it to the finals again. Since he was injured in the semi-finals, he had to give up in the final without a fight. This enabled him to qualify for the Olympic Games in the last attempt. At the pre-Olympic AIBA President Cup, which for many athletes was the dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games, he lost in the semi-finals to the Filipino Harry Tañamor . At the 2008 Olympic Games , Serdamba reached after victories over Ronald Serugo , Uganda (9: 5), Luis Yáñez , USA (8: 7), Amnat Ruenroeng , Thailand (5: 2), and Yampier Hernández , Cuba (+8: 8 ), the final. In this he faced the Chinese Zou Shiming , to whom he lost due to an injury in the second round.

At the Asian Championships 2009 Serdamba started in the flyweight (-51 kg), but was eliminated in the quarter-finals. In the same year he fought - now again in light flyweight - at the world championships and won after victories a. a. over Paulo Carvalho , Brazil (15: 7), Howhannes Danieljan , Armenia (8: 4), and in the final over David Hajrapetjan , Russia (10: 5), the gold medal. The following year Serdamba became student world champion, but was eliminated from the Asian Games in Guangzhou against Birschan Schaqypow , Kazakhstan (9-0). The Asian Championships 2011 also ended for him in the round of 16 against the eventual Asian champions Shin Jong-Hun , South Korea (25:16). At the World Championships in the same year, however, things went better for Serdamba. After victories and a. via Ceiber Ávila , Thomas Essomba , Cameroon (11: 6), and the silver medalist of the Pan American Games 2011 Yosvany Veitía , Cuba (RSC 1st), and a semi-final defeat against Shin Jong-Hun (20:11), he won the bronze medal. With this success Serdamba also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he was eliminated in the first fight against the Indian Devendro Singh with 16:11 points.
