Ceiber David Avila Segura (* 26. May 1989 in San Pedro Urabá , Antioquia ) is a Colombian boxer in the flyweight .

Career

The 1.68 m southpaw won a bronze medal at the Pan American Championships in Mexico in 2009 after losing to Paulo Carvalho in the semifinals . He then took part in the 2009 World Championships in Italy , where he was eliminated in the first fight against Dawid Airapetjan .

In 2010 he won the South American Games in Colombia with a final victory against Julião Neto and after losing to Jonathan González in the final he secured the silver medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico in 2010 .

At the 2011 World Championships in Azerbaijan he defeated Leandro Zárate before losing to Pürewdordschiin Serdamba in the round of 16 . At the Pan American Games in Mexico in 2011, he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Joselito Velásquez .

He ended the 2013 Pan American Championships in the quarterfinals after losing to Orlando Huitzil.

In 2014 he won bronze at the South American Games in Chile and silver at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico. He had defeated Jeyvier Cintrón and lost to Julião Neto and Yosvany Veitía .

With wins against Andres Campos, David Jiménez and Leonel de los Santos , he qualified for the 2015 Pan American Games in Canada , where he lost again in the semifinals to Yosvany Veitía and won a bronze medal. He achieved the same result at the 2015 Pan American Championships in Venezuela . At the 2015 World Championships in Qatar , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals for the fourth time against Yosvany Veitía, having previously beaten Yoel Finol .

In 2016 he took part in the Olympic Games in Brazil , where he was defeated by Mikhail Alojan in the quarter-finals .

In 2017 Ávila won the silver medal at the Pan American Championships in Honduras after losing to Yosvany Veitía in the final and qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Germany . There he defeated Niall Farrell in the round of 16 , but then lost to Jasurbek Latipov .

In 2018 he won the silver medal at the South American Games in Bolivia and the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia. He beat Rodrigo Marte in the final .

At the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg , he was eliminated from Kurt Walker before reaching the medal ranks .

Since February 2016, Ceiber Ávila has been boxing for the “Heroicos de Colombia” team in the World Series of Boxing (WSB). He is also the winner of the Bolivarian Games in 2009, 2013 and 2017, as well as the winner of international tournaments in Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador. He also beat the two-time Olympic champion Robeisy Ramírez .
