Jeyvier Jesús Cintrón Ocasio (born February 8, 1995 in Bayamón ) is an amateur boxer from Puerto Rico . He was a participant in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games .

Career

Jeyvier Cintrón came into contact with boxing at an early age as the son of professional boxer Javier "Perrito" Cintrón and referee Aracelis Ocasio. He achieved his first international success in the youth field (U17) at the Pan American Youth Games 2011 in Tena , where he won third place in the light flyweight division (-48 kg).

At the age of 17, Cintrón was nominated for the American Olympic qualification tournament in Rio de Janeiro in 2012 and was able to start this flyweight (up to 52 kg) after four victories, among others. a. surprisingly win in the final against Julião Neto , Brazil (19:11), which qualified him for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . The following year he qualified for the Pan American Games in Toronto , but was eliminated in the first fight against the later gold medalist Yosvany Veitía , Cuba , with 2-1 judges votes.

At the 2016 Olympic Games, he was eliminated in the preliminary round.

World Series of Boxing

Jeyvier Cintrón took part in Season V of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) with the Puerto Rico Hurricanes team in 2015 and won six out of seven fights (he was defeated by Hamza Touba ), making him second in the WSB flyweight rankings at the end of the season behind Yosvany Veitía took. Jeyvier Cintrón qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games .
