Yosvany Veitía Soto (born March 12, 1992 in Sancti Spíritus ) is a Cuban boxer .

Career

In the junior division (U19) Veitía won the 2010 Pan American Games in Santiago de los Caballeros in light flyweight (-48 kg) .

In 2011 Veitía won the Cuban championships for the first time. In the same year he also won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara . At the World Championships in Baku in the same year , Veitía retired after victories a. a. via Birschan Schaqypow , Kazakhstan (21:11), in the quarter-finals against the later bronze medalist Pürewdordschiin Serdamba , Mongolia (RSC 1st). In 2012 Veitía started at the Olympic Games in London . After a preliminary round win over Billy Ward, Australia (26: 4), he was eliminated in the round of 16 against defending champion Zhou Shiming , China (14:11).

At the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , Veitía reached the semi-finals against Schaqypov, to which he was defeated this time with 3-0 judges' votes. The following year, Veitía switched to flyweight (-52 kg) and won the Central America and Caribbean Games in this .

In 2015 Veitía started in flyweight at the Pan American Games in Toronto and reached the final again, in which he was defeated by the American Antonio Vargas with 3-0 judges votes.

At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , Veitía reached the final against Elvin Məmişzadə , Azerbaijan, after victories over Achraf Kharroubi , Morocco (2: 1), Ceiber Ávila , Colombia (3: 0), and Hu Jianguan , China (3: 0) . He lost to this with 3-0 judges votes and thus won the silver medal. With this success, Veitía qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games , where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

At the Pan American Championships 2017 he won the gold medal and thus qualified for the World Championships 2017 in Hamburg . There he also won the gold medal after beating Jasurbek Latipov in the final .

World Series of Boxing

With the first start of the Cuban boxing team as Cuba Domadores in the World Series of Boxing in the 2013/14 season, Yosvany Veitía also fought in this world league. In his first season he won all six fights in which he was used. Among them was a victory in the final against the Azerbaijan Baku Fires, which the Cuba Domadores won.

In the 2015 season, Veitía won all seven fights in the current season. He finished first in the ranking of his weight class this season. In the final fight of the Cuba Domadores against the Astana Arlans, Veitía lost to Olzhas Sattibayev and his team could not defend their title.
