Kurt Anthony James Walker (* 7. March 1995 ) is an Irish boxer in the bantamweight .
Career
Kurt Walker was Irish Junior Flyweight Champion in 2012 and Irish U18 Bantamweight Champion in 2013. His greatest successes as a youth were third place at the 2012 World Youth Championships in Yerevan and second place at the 2013 European Youth Championships in Rotterdam . In 2013 he also won the Irish newcomers' championships in the elite class.
At the 2015 European Games in Baku , he was eliminated in the first fight against the Russian Bakhtovar Nasirov (1: 2), but won the Irish championships in 2015 and 2016.
In 2017 he again secured the Irish championship title and started at the U22 European Championships in 2017 in Brăila , where he lost to Italian Raffaele Di Serio (1: 4) in the round of 16. In the European championships 2017 in Charkiw defeating Severiane Çiladze from Georgia (5: 0), Tayfur Əliyev from Azerbaijan (4: 1) and this time also Raffaele Di Serio from Italy (3: 1) before the final against he Mykola Butsenko from the Ukraine (0: 5) lost and was eliminated with a bronze medal. He was thus qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he was eliminated in the first fight against Leonel de los Santos .
At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia , he won the silver medal after losing to Peter McGrail in the final . In November 2018 he took part in the EU championships in Spain and won the gold medal after victories against Stefan Iwanow, Jarosław Iwanow, Artush Gomtsyan and this time also against Peter McGrail.
His greatest success so far was at the 2019 European Games in Minsk , when he defeated Peter McGrail and Mykola Butsenko and won the gold medal. At the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Erdenebatyn Tsendbaatar .
