Robeisy Eloy Ramírez Carrazana (born December 20, 1993 in Cienfuegos ) is a Cuban boxer and two-time Olympic champion (2012 and 2016) in the bantamweight (-56 kg).

Career

Youth and Juniors

In 2009 Ramírez was bronze medalist at the Junior World Championships in Yerevan and gold medalist at the American Junior Championships in Quito . He achieved both successes in the flyweight (-52 kg).

In 2010 he won the American Youth Championships in Santiago de los Caballeros and also won the bantamweight (-54 kg) World Youth Championships 2010 in Baku with a final victory over Shiva Thapa . He also defeated this in the final of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore .

Men

At the age of 17, Ramírez took part in the Cuban championships for the first time in 2010 and immediately won a bronze medal. Since he prevailed in the internal selection in the course of this year, he was able to start at the 2011 World Championships , where after victories over Veli Mumin and Sudesh Manandhar, he met the eventual world champion Michail Alojan in the round of 16 and lost this fight. He finished 9th and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London .

Before the start of the Olympic Games, Ramírez won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico in 2011 and was Cuban champion for the first time.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Ramírez reached the semifinals with victories over Katsuaki Susa , Chatchai Butdee and Andrew Selby , which he won against Michael Conlan . In the final he met Njambajaryn Tögstsogt and could also decide this fight for himself, with which he won the Olympic gold medal in the flyweight division.

In 2013, Ramírez switched to bantamweight and beat Lázaro Álvarez in the final of the Cuban championship . In the same year he also won the American Championships in Santiago de Chile and beat Robenilson de Jesus , among others . At the 2013 World Championships , he reached the quarterfinals with wins against Zhang Jiawei and Aram Awagjan , in which he lost to Qairat Yeraliyev .

At the end of January 2014, the Cuban boxing federation banned Ramírez from international competitions for a period of six months. As early as November 2013, a public warning had been issued against him, based on repeated missed training sessions. In November of the same year he won the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz , in December he won his third Cuban championship title in a row with a narrow final win of 2-1 against Andy Cruz.

In 2016 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro at a tournament in Baku . There he won his second Olympic gold medal with victorious decisions over Shiva Thapa , Mohamed Hamout , Zhang Jiawei , Murodjon Ahmadaliyev and Shakur Stevenson .
