Horace "Lefty" Gwynne (born October 5, 1912 in Toronto , † April 16, 2001 ibid) was a Canadian boxer .
Gwynne dropped out of school early and began training in Toronto to originally become a jockey. However, his talent as a boxer was recognized and promoted. At the age of 19 he won the Canadian Amateur Flyweight Championship in Ontario. In the same year he took part in qualifying for the Olympic Games in the bantamweight weight class. Shortly thereafter, he won the Canadian amateur bantamweight championship and was admitted to the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where he won the gold medal after winning points against the German Hans Ziglarski .
Immediately after the Olympics, Gwynne turned pro and won the Canadian professional bantamweight title in 1935, which he held until his retirement in 1939. Out of 41 fights he was able to win 31, he lost eight, the remaining two ended in a draw. He was inducted into the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame and the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame .
