Njambajaryn Tögstsogt ( Mongolian Нямбаярын Төгсцогт ; English Tugstsogt Nyambayar ; born June 23, 1992 in Ulaanbaatar ) is a Mongolian professional featherweight boxer. As an amateur, he was, among other things, silver medalist at the 2009 World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games , both in the flyweight division.
Amateur career
His first major competition was the Asian Championships in 2009 in Zhuhai , where he moved into the semifinals with a victory against Birschan Schaqypow and was eliminated there against Nanao Singh with a bronze medal in the light flyweight division. So he was qualified for the 2009 World Championships in Milan and reached the flyweight final with wins against Suranjoy Singh, Peter Senky, Declan Geraghty, Vincenzo Picardi and Michail Alojan , where he lost to McWilliams Arroyo and won silver.
Since he was younger than 19 years old, he was also able to take part in the 2010 Asian Youth Championships in Tehran and won silver in the bantamweight division, but was eliminated from the 2010 World Youth Championships in Baku in the quarter-finals against Dawid Michelus. He also won the flyweight gold medal at the 2010 World University Championships in Ulaanbaatar. At the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou , he lost in the preliminary round to Shahriyor Isakov.
At the Asian Championships 2011 in Incheon he failed in the second round against Santosh Harijan and at the World Championships 2011 in Baku also in the second round against Elvin Məmişzadə .
In April 2012 he won the Asian Olympic qualification in Astana with victories against Rey Saludar, Suranjoy Singh, Muhammad Waseem and Katsuaki Susa for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . There he moved in flyweight after victorious fights against Elvin Məmişzadə, Vincenzo Picardi, Jasurbek Latipov and Michail Alojan in the final, where he was defeated by 14:17 against Robeisy Ramírez .
In March 2013 he won a tournament in the Czech Republic , defeating Michael Conlan and Enrico Lacruz , among others . At the 2013 World Championships in Almaty, he lost in the first fight against Cavid Çələbiyev .
At the Military (CISM) World Championships in 2014 in Almaty he won bronze in the bantamweight division, at the Asian Games in 2014 in Incheon he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Sang-Myeong Han.
In addition, he boxed for the Baku Fires team in the World Series of Boxing in the 2010/11 season and is Mongolian light flyweight champion in 2009, flyweight in 2012, and bantamweight in 2011, 2013 and 2014. In total, he played 279 fights as an amateur and won 245.
Professional career
In 2015 he started his professional career with the US promoter Joe Goossen and made his debut on March 13 of the same year. After ten wins in a row, he won the IBO Featherweight World Championship against Claudio Marrero on January 26, 2019 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn .
On February 8, 2020, he boxed for the WBC World Championship and lost on points to Gary Russell junior .
