Vincenzo Picardi
Vincenzo Picardi (born October 20, 1983 in Casoria near Naples ) is an Italian boxer . Picardi was a bronze medalist at the 2007 World Championships , the 2008 Olympic Games, and the 2010 and 2011 European Championships .
Career
Youth and national successes
The roughly 1.65 m tall left boom began boxing in 1997 and participated in the 2001 European Junior Championships and the 2002 Junior World Championships , where he was eliminated from Łukasz Maszczyk and Dawid Airapetjan before reaching the medal ranks .
In 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007 he became the Italian flyweight champion and won a bronze medal in 2005.
Continental championships
At the EU Championships in 2003 and 2005, he was eliminated in the quarter-finals and lost at the European Championships in 2004 in the first fight against Nikoloz Izoria . In the first fight of the Mediterranean Games in 2005 he was eliminated against Walid Cherif and at the European Championships in 2006 also in the first fight against Samir Məmmədov .
He finished the 2007 EU championships with a bronze flyweight medal after losing to Salim Salimow in the semi-finals. He repeated this success at the EU Championships in 2008 after the semi-finals against Rafał Kaczor. He won another bronze flyweight medal at the 2009 Mediterranean Games after losing to Nordine Oubaali in the semifinals .
At the European Championships in 2010 and 2011 he won a bronze medal in flyweight. He had defeated Alexander Riscan , Francisco Torrijos, Veli Mumin and Michael Conlan , while he was defeated by Michail Alojan and Georgi Balakschin . Against owik Ogannisjan he lost in the second round in the Europe 2013 championships . He finished the 2013 Mediterranean Games with a silver flyweight medal after losing to Kelvin de la Nieve in the final . In the semifinals he had defeated Abdelali Daraa .
He then achieved his greatest success at European level at the European Games in 2015 . With victories against Muhammad Ali , Ferhat Pehlivan and Viliam Tankó , he was only defeated in the final against Elvin Məmişzadə and thus won the silver medal in the flyweight division.
World Championships / Olympic Games
For the first time in a world championship he took part in 2005 and defeated Toshiyuki Igarashi in the preliminary round, but retired in the second fight against Samir Məmmədov . He achieved his greatest success at the 2007 World Cup in Chicago , when he reached the semi-finals against Kadri Kordel, Katsuaki Susa and Anuruddha Rathnayake and was eliminated from Somjit Jongjohor with a bronze medal.
At the 2008 World Cup he won bronze again after beating Walid Cherif and losing to Michail Alojan and started at the 2008 Olympic Games , where he also won a bronze medal. With victories against Cassius Chiyanika, Juan Payano and Walid Cherif, he moved into the semi-finals, where he was eliminated by Somjit Jongjohor .
At the 2009 World Cup he defeated Nikhat Seidov, Fernando Martínez and Li Chao, but lost the fight for a place in the semifinals against Njambajaryn Tögstsogt . With three wins he also reached the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Cup , where he lost to Jasurbek Latipov . At the Olympic Games in 2012 he was also eliminated from Njambajaryn Tögstsogt with 16:17.
At the 2013 World Cup he was eliminated in the preliminary round and in the 2015 World Cup in the round of 16.
World Series of Boxing
In the World Series of Boxing , he fought for Milano Thunder since season one. In the 2010/2011 season he played four fights of which he won three. However, Milano Thunder did not reach the playoffs this season.
During the group stage, Picardi was only used once in the 2011/2012 season and won against the representative of the Astana Arlans. Milano Thunder reached the playoffs this time and Picardi won in the quarter-final home win of Milano Thunders against defending champions Paris United against Samir Brahimi. He was also used in the home fight in the semi-final against Baku Fires and defeated Gairbek Germakhanov. With these two victories, Picardi had a decisive influence on his team's entry into the finals. In the final against Dynamo Moscow he faced the Russian U22 champions Vladimir Nikitin , whom he beat on points and thus contributed to winning the title at Milano Thunders.
In the 2012/2013 season Picardi lost the first fight against the 2011 European Champion Veaceslav Gojan , who competed for the German Eagles. In the further course of the group stage he still beat the representatives of the USA Knockouts and the Astana Arlans. Milano Thunder also reached the playoffs this season. Picardi was used in the quarterfinals against the Poland Hussars and was able to win his fight.
After that, he didn't start again until 2018.
AIBA Pro Boxing
He fought in the semi-professional APB series from 2014, but lost all four of his fights.
