Samir Məmmədov
Samir Məmmədov (or Mammadow ; born May 15, 1988 ) is an Azerbaijani boxer . He was a bronze medalist at the 2007 Chicago Flyweight Championship for Amateurs .
Career
Samir Məmmədov started boxing as a teenager in Baku. The 1.62 m tall athlete mostly fights in bantamweight, but trains for important international championships in flyweight.
He recorded his first international successes in 2005 when he lost to runner-up world champion Atagün Yalçınkaya from Turkey at the "Ahmet Comert" flyweight tournament in Istanbul in the final . In the same year he was then in Tallinn Junior European flyweight champion. Here he defeated the French Boumer Daci Amine in the final by breaking off in the 3rd round.
In 2006 he started at the European Flyweight Championships in Plovdiv. There he defeated Vincenzo Picardi from Italy by breaking off in the 2nd round and defeated Wachagan Awagjan from Armenia (43:20) and ex-world champion Jérôme Thomas from France (51:33) on points. In the semifinals he was defeated by defending champion Georgi Balakschin from Russia on points (30:43) and came in 3rd place. In the same year he also took part in the Junior World Flyweight Championship in Agadir and won there over Zhang Zhiwei from China on points (20:14), but lost in the round of 16 against Orzubek Shayimov from Uzbekistan on points (32:46) and only finished 9th.
In 2007 he took 3rd place at the Strandja tournament in Plovdiv in bantamweight after losing in the semifinals to Detelin Dalakliew from Bulgaria. He took the same place at the Grand Prix in Ústí nad Labem in the bantamweight division. He lost in the semifinals against Rudolf Dydi from Slovakia. At the World Championships in Chicago that same year, Samir Məmmədov presented himself in excellent form. He boxed a flyweight and defeated Juan Padilla from Spain by canceling in the 3rd round, Lee Chu Feng from Taiwan by canceling in the 3rd round, Anwar Junussow from Tajikistan (23:13) and McWilliams Arroyo from Puerto Rico (33:21 ) on points before losing on points in the semifinals to Rau'Shee Warren from the United States (13:26). He took an excellent third place at this world championship.
In the 2008 Olympic year he started at the Strandja tournament in Plovdiv with a 2nd place in the bantamweight division. After victories over Nikola Nikolow from Bulgaria (33:22) and Rustam Rachimow from Germany (25: 9), he no longer competed against Kunat Abutalipow from Kazakhstan because of a minor injury due to a minor injury. The last test before the Olympic Games in Beijing, for which he qualified with his third place at the 2007 World Cup, was the 1st AIBA President International Tournament in Taipei / Taiwan. He won this bantamweight tournament with victories over Julie Louis Richard Bruno from Mauritius, Zinat Shandibajew from Russia, Hoorshid Tojbajew from Uzbekistan and Warapoj Petchkoom from Thailand.
At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 Samir Məmmədov started in the flyweight division. But he was eliminated in the round of 16 with a point defeat against Somjit Jongjohor from Thailand . It was the same for him at the 2008 European Championships in Liverpool . Here, too, he was eliminated in the round of 16 with a point defeat against Ryan Lindberg from Ireland . Finally, he also disappointed at the CISM military world championships, which took place in his home country, because here too he was eliminated in the round of 16 with a point defeat against Tulashboy Doniyorow from Uzbekistan . In all three events, he only finished 9th.
He did not start at the 2009 World Cup.
