Georgi Ruslanowitsch Balakschin ( Russian Георгий Русланович Балакшин * 6. March 1980 in Antonowka, Sacha , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian boxer in the flyweight .
Career
Georgi Balakschin won the gold medal at the Junior European Championships in Birmingham in 1997 , where he had defeated Jérôme Thomas in the final . At the Junior World Championships in Buenos Aires in 1998 , he then won the silver medal after losing to Serik Jeleuow in the final. He won another silver medal at the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane .
In 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007 he won the Russian championships and was runner-up in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
His first big success with the adults was winning a bronze medal at the World Championships 2001 in Belfast , after he was only eliminated in the semifinals against Wolodymyr Sydorenko . In 2002 he won the European Championships in Perm , where he was able to defeat Rustam Rachimow , Igor Samoylenko and Alexandar Alexandrow , among others . At the 2003 World Championships in Bangkok , however, he lost in the quarter-finals against Alexandrov and thus missed the medal ranks.
In 2004 he repeated winning the European Championships in Pula , where he was able to defeat Jérôme Thomas, Rustam Rachimow and Nikoloz Izoria , among others . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he moved into the quarter-finals by winning against Mbarek Soltani and Mirschan Rachichanov, where he was eliminated against the eventual Olympic champion Yuriorkis Gamboa .
Also at the 2005 World Championships in Mianyang he reached the quarterfinals against Bradley Hore and Atagün Yalçınkaya , where he was then defeated by Rau'Shee Warren . In 2006 he won the European Championships in Plovdiv for the third time in a row , where he was able to beat Igor Samoylenko, Bato-Munko Wankeyev and Samir Məmmədov , among others . In the same year he also won the Chemistry Cup in Germany and the World Cup in Baku . He defeated it in the finals Pürewdordschiin Serdamba and Andry Laffita .
In 2007 he was eliminated again in the quarter-finals against Rau'Shee Warren at the World Championships in Chicago , having previously prevailed against Jérôme Thomas, Nurlan Aydarbek and Jitender Kumar. In 2008 he still took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing , defeating Mirat Sarsembajew and Jitender Kumar, before he lost to Andry Laffita in the semi-finals with 8: 9 and was eliminated with a bronze medal.
His last significant success was winning the silver medal at the 2011 European Championships in Ankara . After victories against Ivan Figurenko, Selçuk Eker , Stefan Iwanow and Vincenzo Picardi , he was defeated in the final against Andrew Selby .
