Selçuk Eker

Selçuk Eker (born December 18, 1991 in Gebze ) is a Turkish amateur boxer.

Career

Eker is around 1.63 m tall and trains with Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kağıtspor . In 2010 he won the Turkish championships in the elite class (adults) for the first time and defeated Murat Korkmaz, Deniz Kindan, Hüseyin Güneş, Rıdvan Budak and Alkan Özdemir on the way to the title.

In 2007 he took part in the weight class up to 46 kg at the European Cadet Championships in Siófok and the World Cadet Championships in Baku , where he was able to reach the quarter-finals. In 2008 he started in the light flyweight division at the World Youth Championships in Guadalajara , Mexico , but was defeated in the first fight against the Uzbek Jasurbek Latipov . Also at the European Youth Championships in Szczecin in 2009 , he retired in the first flyweight fight against the starter from Georgia.

At the 38th European Championships in Moscow in 2010 , he was only eliminated from the flyweight division in the quarter-finals against the Russian Michail Alojan . It was similar for him at the 39th European Championships in Ankara in 2011 , when he lost 13:15 in the bantamweight division in the round of 16 against Georgi Balakschin from Russia .

In September 2011 he took part in bantamweight at the 16th World Championships in Baku , but retired in the second preliminary round with a tight decision of 15:17 against Oteng Oteng from Botswana. In April 2012, he won second place in the European Olympic qualification in Trabzon , after he had prevailed against Howhannes Danieljan from Armenia, Rafał Kaczor from Poland and Norbert Kalucza from Hungary and was only defeated in the final against Nordine Oubaali from France. So he started in July of the same year in bantamweight at the 30th Olympic Games in London , but had to accept a point defeat of 10:24 against Chatchai Butdee from Thailand in the first fight .

Then starting in featherweight, he suffered at the 40th European Championships in 2013 in Minsk, a defeat in the round of 16 against the Irishman John Nevin , silver medalist at the 2012 Olympic Games. In October of the same year he took part in the 17th World Championships in Almaty , Kazakhstan , and reached the 5th place in featherweight. After victories against the American Eduardo Martinez, the Finn Matti Koota and the Brazilian Robenilson de Jesus , he was only eliminated in the quarter-finals with 1: 2 against the Ukrainian Mykola Butsenko .

In 2015 he took part in the European Games in Baku , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Qais Ashfaq . In June 2016 he qualified at the World Olympic Qualifier in Baku for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . At the Olympics, however, he lost in the first fight against the Chinese Hu Jianguan .

Eker also boxed in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons for the Turkish team "Istanbulls" and "Istanbul Bosphorus" in the World Series of Boxing (WSB). He played six fights, of which he won two and lost four.
