José Kelvin de la Nieve Linares (born August 22, 1986 in Alcarrizos , Dominican Republic ) is a Spanish boxer .

Career

Kelvin de la Nieve Linares emigrated with his parents from the Dominican Republic to Spain in 1997 and was naturalized there in 2000. He settled in Huelva and started boxing there at the age of 15 at Club Yoon Boxing Huelva . His coach was Beni Alloza.

The 1.63 m tall athlete has started his career in light flyweight, the class up to 48 kg body weight. After he was already one of the best boxers in the junior competitions in Spain, he was able to achieve good results in several international tournaments in 2004. So he reached the final at the tournament of the Spanish boxing association Box-Am 2004 in Vitoria-Gasteiz in which he lost just on points against the Frenchman Sofiane Takouchi. At the Junior World Championships 2004 in Jeju / South Korea he lost after a bye in the round of 16 against Mustafa Dogan from Turkey on points (8:13) and was eliminated.

In 2005 Kelvin de la Nieve was the first Spanish light flyweight champion and was also the tournament winner at the 2005 Box-Am tournament in Lanzarote with a point win (43:18) in the final over Pawel Petrow from Russia . At the 2005 World Cup in Mianyang / China he remained unplaced because he lost his first fight there against the Japanese Kenji Ohkuba on points (24:30).

In 2006, Kelvin de la Nieve was again Spanish light flyweight champion. He also won the 2006 Box-Am tournament in Lanzarote. He beat it in the final battle Ilgiz Machmutow from Russia on points. At the Strandja tournament in Plovdiv he came in third after beating Yanko Yankew from Bulgaria and losing to Salim Badji from Algeria . At the European Championships this year in Plovdiv he came to a demolition victory in the 3rd round over Kadri Kordel from Turkey, but was defeated in the quarterfinals against Moomin Veli from Macedonia by breaking off in the 3rd round. In 2007 Kelvin de la Nieve reached the final at the Box-Am tournament in Vigo , where he lost just under points (26:32) to French top boxer Nordine Oubaali after a tough fight. He also took second place at the 58th Strandja tournament in Plovdiv. Here he lost in the final battle against Bishan Tschakipow from Kazakhstan . At the championship of the European Union in Dublin he reached the final, in which he was defeated by the Hungarian world class man Pál Bedák on points (10:20). At the 2007 World Cup in Chicago , he retired with a win over Olimjan Nazarow from Uzbekistan and another defeat against Norine Oubaali after the round of 16 and thus reached 9th place.

The year 2008 began with Kelvin de al Nieve with a win at the Box-Am in Valladolid . He defeated Howhannes Danieljan from Armenia in the final on points. Subsequently, his attempt failed at the first European qualifying tournament in Pescara / Italy for the Olympic Games due to a point defeat in the quarterfinals against Łukasz Maszczyk . In May 2008 he was able to use the last available opportunity at the second European qualifying tournament in Athens . He defeated there Marius Vysniauskas from Lithuania , Darren Langley from England and Moomin Veli and had thus reached the final against Pál Bedák, with which he had qualified for Beijing . In Beijing, Kelvin de la Nieve Linares retired after his first fight with a point defeat against the American Luis Yáñez and ended up in 17th place.

At the 2010 European Championships in Moscow , he reached the semi-finals with points wins over Lukasz Maszcyk , Poland (6: 1) and Ferhat Pehlivan, Turkey (2: 1), in which he lost 3: 6 points against the eventual title winner Paddy Barnes from Ireland . He won an EM bronze medal with it.

In 2011 de la Nieve was seventh at both the European Championships in Ankara and the World Championships in Baku . With the latter success he qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . In preparation, he took part in an international tournament in Sofia in 2012 , but lost here in the quarter-finals against World Cup runner-up Shin Jong-Hun au Korea . At the Spanish championships in the same year he won the gold medal with ease. At the games, however, de la Nieve lost in the first fight against the Ecuadorian Carlos Quipo with 14:11 points.

In 2013, de la Nieve, now starting in the flyweight (up to 52 kg), retired early at the European Championships in Minsk against the later bronze medalist Elvin Məmişzadə , Azerbaijan (3-0). At the Mediterranean Games in the same year, however, he won the gold medal with a final victory over Vincenzo Picardi , Italy (2-1). The following year he also won a bronze medal at the EU championships in Sofia .

In 2015 de la Nieve was eliminated in the round of 16 at the European Games in Baku , but then won the bronze medal at the European Championships in the same year.

World Series of Boxing

In the 2015 season, de la Nieve played five fights for the British Lionhearts in the World Series of Boxing , but won only one of them.
