The Opdenbosch-Mangabe ( Lophocebus opdenboschi ) is a primate of the family Cercopithecidae (Cercopithecidae). It used to be and is still sometimes listed as a subspecies of the Schopfmabe .

features

Opdenbosch mangabians are relatively slender primates with long legs and a long tail. Their fur is black and longer than that of the Schopfmabe. On the top of the head there is a flat mop of hair, on the cheeks elongated cheek hairs. In contrast to the tuft of hair, the hair on the cheek is not bent and not colored gray and the head of hair is flatter and not pyramidal.

Habitat and way of life

These animals live in the southwest of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in the adjacent parts of Angola . Their habitat are forests, predominantly tropical rainforests on the banks of the Kwilu , Kwango and Wamba .

Little is known about the way of life, it probably agrees with that of the Schopfm information. As a result, they are diurnal tree dwellers that rarely hunt on the ground and live in small groups. The diet is likely to consist mainly of fruits, nuts and small animals.

Deforestation and hunting for their meat pose a threat to these animals. There is no precise information on the degree of threat, but the IUCN lists the species under “too little data available” ( data deficient ).
