Pál Bedák (born September 8, 1985 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian boxer .

Career

Pál Bedák grew up in Budapest and comes from a boxer family, from which another successful boxer emerged with his brother Zsolt Bedák . Because of his height of 1.52 m, Pál Bedák was nicknamed "Little Big Man". He started boxing as a schoolboy, fought on the left hand side and achieved great success at international level as a junior.

He won the gold medal at the 2002 Cadet European Championships in Ukraine , the 2003 Junior European Championships in Poland and the 2004 Junior World Championships in South Korea . He defeated, among others, McWilliams Arroyo and Sergei Wodopjanow . He won the silver medal at the 2002 Cadet World Championships in Hungary, and is the last sixteen at the 2001 Cadet World Championships and the 2002 Junior World Championships.

In the adult he was Hungarian champion in 2002 and 2003 in light flyweight, and Hungarian champion in 2004, 2006 and 2007 in flyweight. In 2005 he was runner-up. In 2003 he took part in the World Championships and reached the last sixteen, where he was defeated by Suban Punnon. At the European Championships in 2004 he won a bronze medal in the light flyweight division when he was only eliminated in the semifinals against Sergei Kazakow . He had previously defeated Atagün Yalçınkaya , who later became Olympic silver medalist in 2004. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he lost in the first duel against Jeyhun Abiyev, whom he had also defeated at the 2004 European Championships.

At the 2005 World Cup , he won victories against Pürewdordschiin Serdamba , this time also Sergei Kasakow, and Birschan Schaqypow , before he was defeated in the final against Zhou Shiming and became vice world champion in the light flyweight division. At the EM 2006 he was defeated in the quarterfinals against Dawid Airapetjan . He was also subject to this in the second fight at the 2007 World Cup .

In April 2008 he won the European Olympic qualification in Athens, beating Ferhat Pehlivan among others . He then took part in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , where he was knocked out this time by Birschan Schaqypow. In addition, he won the EU championships in 2007 and 2008 in the light flyweight division, where he wins against Alfonso Pinto , Nordine Oubaali , Kelvin de la Nieve , Łukasz Maszczyk and Paddy Barnes .

From December 2008 to May 2010 he played eight successful professional fights in Austria, Hungary and Germany, five of which he won early.
