Sergei Wladimirowitsch Wodopjanow ( Russian Сергей Владимирович Водопьянов ; born September 20, 1987 in Taldyqorghan , Kazakh SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian boxer . He was world champion in 2007 in Chicago in the bantamweight silver medalist at the 2009 World Championships in Milan in the featherweight and participants in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and 2012 in London .

Career

Sergei Wodopjanow won the silver medal in the light flyweight division in 2004 at the Junior World Championships in South Korea and in 2005 the gold medal in the same weight class at the Junior European Championships in Estonia . He defeated among others Nordine Oubaali and Howhannes Danieljan twice . At the Junior World Championships in Morocco in 2006 , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Vasyl Lomatschenko .

In 2006, after a final defeat against Georgi Balakschin, he became Russian runner-up in flyweight and won the Russian championship in bantamweight the following year with a final victory against Shinat Shandibayev.
