George Olteanu

George Crinu Raicu-Olteanu (born May 3, 1974 in Ștefăneşti , Argeş County ) is a former Romanian boxer. He became the 1999 amateur world bantamweight champion .

Boxing career

He made his first major international appearance in 1996 at the European Championships in Vejle , Denmark , where he reached 5th place. After victories against Dirk Krüger from Germany (17: 5) and Sergio Spatafora from Italy (13: 5), he was only defeated in the quarter-finals against Aleksandar Christow from Bulgaria (3: 7). In the same year he took part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta , where he was able to prevail against Samuel Álvarez from Mexico and Riadh Klaï from Tunisia and was only defeated in the quarter-finals against István Kovács from Hungary and was eliminated in 8th place.

At the 1997 World Championships in Budapest he was able to defeat the American Rocky Juarez , but lost in the next fight against the German Myrko Schade 7: 9. The 1999 World Championships in Houston were more successful . With victories against Ağası Məmmədov from Turkey, Sontaya Wongprates from Thailand, Benoit Gaudet from Canada and Kamil Jamaludinow from Russia, he won the gold medal. He then took part in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where he was able to defeat Artur Mikaelian from Greece and César Morales from Mexico, before being eliminated again in the quarter-finals against Clarence Vinson from the USA.

On June 5, 2001, he played his only professional fight, which he won on points.
