Aleksandar Christow ( Bulgarian Александър Христов ; English transcription: Aleksandar Khristov ; born July 28, 1964 in Plovdiv ) is a former Bulgarian boxer . Christow was bronze medalist at the European Championships in 1996 , silver medalist at the European Championships in 1985 and the Olympic Games in 1988 , European Champion in 1987 and World Champion in 1993 .

Career

The athlete, who was named Alexander Christov in German sports reporting in the early 1990s, won the silver medal in bantamweight at the European Championships in Budapest in 1985 . He was only defeated in the final to the Yugoslav Ljubiša Simić .

In 1987 he won the European Championships in Turin . He had won the bantamweight against Mike Devanney from Scotland, this time also against Ljubiša Simić, the German René Breitbarth and Juri Alexandrow from the Soviet Union.

He then started in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , where he defeated Peter Anok from Sudan, Byun Jung-il from South Korea, Jimmy Mayanja from Sweden, Alexander Artemiew from the Soviet Union and Jorge Julio Rocha from Colombia, and only in the final Kennedy McKinney from the USA was subject.
