Iychernofret , also Ichernofret , practiced at the end of the reign of the ancient Egyptian king Sesostris III. (around 1872 BC to around 1852 BC) and at the beginning of the reign of his son Amenemhet III. (1853 to 1805 BC) held the office of royal “ treasurer ”.

supporting documents

Iychernofret is best known for his steles which he had set up in Abydos . On one of the steles, which is now housed in the Egyptian Museum Berlin , there is a biographical text with valuable information on the Osiris cult in Abydos . On this stele it is reported that the king ordered the official to perform the cult of the god, that he should make images of gods and, above all, build a divine barge. Furthermore, Iychernofret organized a parade of the Upuaut , during which he was the "enemy of the barge expelled ”and“ destroyed the enemies of Osiris ”, which apparently indicates dramatic performances in the course of the Osiris cult.

origin

Little is known about the actual person of Iychernofret. His father is never named. His mother's name was Zatchons. According to him, Iychernofret grew up in the royal palace and was given the first important office at the age of 26.
