McJoe Arroyo Acevedo (born December 5, 1985 in Ceiba , Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican professional boxer and former IBF world champion in super flyweight .

He is the twin brother of boxer McWilliams Arroyo .

Amateur career

McJoe Arroyo won a bronze flyweight medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia in 2006 when he was eliminated in the semifinals against Juan Payano with 8:11. At the 2007 World Championships in Chicago he defeated Ryan Lindberg from Ireland, Saparbek Ulu Tilek from Kyrgyzstan and Jonathan Romero from Colombia, lost in the semifinals to the Russian Sergei Wodopjanow and won a bronze medal in the bantamweight division. Against Wodopjanow he was also defeated in the first fight at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .

In 2009 he started at the World Championships in Milan . There he reached the round of 16 against Martin Parlagy and Pedro Matos, where he lost to the Chinese Gu Yu.

Professional career

McJoe Arroyo made his professional debut on February 27, 2010. After 14 wins in a row, he won against Hernan Marquez and Mark Anthony Geraldo in 2014 , which he qualified for an IBF world championship fight in super flyweight. He won this duel on July 18, 2015 by evaluating the score sheet against Arthur Villanueva after the fight had been abandoned due to a cut injury at Villanueva in the tenth round. In his first title defense on September 3, 2016, however, he lost unanimously on points against Jerwin Ancajas .

He lost to Rau'Shee Warren in July 2017 and to Luis Nery in March 2019 .
