Zhang Jiawei (born January 8, 1989 ) is a Chinese boxer .

Career

Zhang took part in an international championship for the first time in 2010 and was able to win at the Asian Games in Guangzhou . a. against Anwar Junussow , Tajikistan (6: 3), and Orzubek Shayimov , Uzbekistan (5: 2), reached the final in the bantamweight (-56 kg), which he lost against the Thai Worapoj Petchkoom with 8: 3 points and thus the silver medal won. The following year he took part in the Asian Championships in Incheon , but was eliminated in the first fight against Junussow (20:15). At the 2011 World Championships in Baku , Zhang was eliminated after victories over Armin Amjadian, Iran (18: 9), and Joan Tipon , Philippines (17: 8), in the round of 16 against Russian Sergei Wodopjanow with 18:12 points.

At the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , Zhang won the first fight against Edgar Walth , Germany (3-0), before failing in the preliminary round to Robeisy Ramírez , Cuba (3-0).

After four years without international medal success, Zhang was able to reach the final again at the Asian Games in Incheon in 2014 , in which he was defeated by the Korean Han Sang-Myeong 3-0.

In March 2016 he won silver at the Chemistry Cup in Germany and took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Robeisy Ramírez .

He won the silver medal at the 2017 Asian Championships . He was qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

AIBA Pro Boxing (APB)

Since November 2014, Zhang has been working in the newly founded professional area "APB" of the IOC recognized world association AIBA. In the first cycle, Zhang was able to win against Wodopjanow, but lost to Alberto Melián and won and lost one fight each against Robenilson de Jesus . In the second cycle, Zhang won against Benson Gicharu and Melian, so that he qualified for the title fight of the APB against Khedafi Djelkhir and thus also for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
