Alberto Melián

Alberto Ezequiel Melián (born January 2, 1990 in Villa Dolores ) is an Argentine professional boxer in super bantamweight. As an amateur, he was a bantamweight Olympic competitor in 2012 and 2016.

Amateur career

Alberto Ezequiel Melián achieved second place at the South American Games in 2010 and also second place at the American Olympic qualification in 2012 in Rio de Janeiro . After victories against Imran Khan, Guyana (20: 5), Alberto Machado, Puerto Rico (17: 8) and William Encarnación, Dominican Republic (16: 8), he lost in the final against Óscar Valdez , Mexico (11:29).

He was then allowed to take part in the 2012 Olympic Games in London , but lost there in the first fight against Sergei Wodopjanow , Russia (5:12).

For the Argentina Condors he took part in Seasons III and IV of the World Series of Boxing and won eight out of nine fights. He was also a participant in the 2009, 2011 and 2013 World Championships. In 2014/15 he boxed in the AIBA Pro Boxing Series and won four out of six fights; in the title match he was defeated against the French Khedafi Djelkhir , whom he had defeated in a previous encounter.

At the Pan American Championships in Venezuela in 2015, he was eliminated against Robenilson de Jesus in the quarter-finals. In March 2016 he reached the final of the American Olympic qualification in Buenos Aires , where he was eliminated by Shakur Stevenson . Before that, he defeated Robeisy Ramírez from Cuba (3-0), Sergio Chirino from Mexico (3-0) and Carlos Caraballo from Puerto Rico (3-0). He qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics , where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Murodjon Ahmadaliyev .

At the Pan American Championships 2017 , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Mexican Christopher Flores and thus qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he lost to Bilel Mhamdi in the second round.

Professional career

Alberto Melián made his professional debut on December 16, 2017. In his only second fight in March 2018, he won the Argentine super bantamweight championship. In January 2019 he also won the NABA title.
