Khedafi Djelkhir (born October 26, 1983 in Besançon ) is a former French boxer . His greatest achievement was winning the featherweight silver medal at the 2008 Olympics .

Career

amateur

Khedafi Djelkhir grew up in Besançon and started boxing at Besançon Ring Athlétique as a teenager in 1996 . His trainer was Nasri Quahib. From 2004 to 2008 he was French featherweight champion, defeating Daouda Sow and Hicham Ziouti , among others .

At the 2004 EU Championships in Spain , he won a bronze medal after being eliminated in the semifinals against Viorel Simion . He finished the 2004 European Championships in Croatia by winning the silver medal after losing to Vitali Tajbert in the final . He also took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , but lost again to Vitali Tajbert in the second round.

After he failed at the 2005 World Championships in China in the preliminary round against Meharullah Lassi and at the 2006 European Championships in Bulgaria in the round of 16 against Şahin İmranov , he won the EU Championships in Ireland in 2007 . He defeated among others Yakup Kılıç and Carl Frampton . At the 2007 World Championships in the United States, he was defeated in the preliminary round against Raynell Williams

In 2008 he won the European Olympic qualification in Italy , beating Stephen Smith and Şahin İmranov , among others . He then started at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . There he penetrated through wins against Paul Fleming, Raynell Williams, Arturo Reyes and Şahin İmranov in the final, where he lost in the fight for the gold medal against Wassyl Lomatschenko .

He has also won international tournaments in Germany, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Spain and the Czech Republic, including the Feliks Stamm Tournament 2005, the Chemistry Cup 2007 and the Tammer Tournament 2007.

World Series of Boxing

In 2013/14 he boxed for Team Italia Thunder in the World Series of Boxing . He won it against Mykola Butsenko , Omar El-Hag and Farid Kennouche and suffered a defeat against Magomed Kurbanow.

Khedafi Djelkhir boxed professionally from March 2009 to June 2014 and won each of his 16 fights, 12 of them prematurely. In December 2010 he won the French championship and in June 2012 the WBO- Intercontinental title .

APB Pro Boxing

From November 2014 to January 2015 Djelkhir started in the newly founded professional division "APB" of the World Amateur Association. Djelkhir was able to win his fights against Yonni Blanco, Alberto Melián and Robenilson de Jesus and was again in the final of the "APB" in bantamweight against Alberto Melián, whom he was able to defeat again. Djelkhir became the first French boxer to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . In July 2016, however, he announced that he would not be participating in the Olympic Games for personal reasons. At this point his amateur record was 103 fights with 84 wins.
