Daouda Sow (born January 19, 1983 in Roubaix ) is a French professional boxer . He won the silver medal in the lightweight at the 2008 Beijing Olympics .

Career

Amateur career

Daouda Sow was born in Roubaix as the son of West African immigrants . At the age of 15 he started boxing at the Hemois Boxing Club in Hem , where his family had since moved . His coach was Abdelhakim Zehrir. Although he grew relatively quickly, he was always very slim and could start in the lower weight classes. In 1999 and 2000 he became French junior champion in flyweight and bantamweight (up to 51 kg and 54 kg body weight, respectively).

In 2001 biw 2003 he mainly devoted himself to his professional training and stepped down with boxing. In 2004 he was at a height of 1.75 m in bantam weight (up to 54 kg body weight) French runner-up when he was defeated by the experienced Ali Hallab in the final on points (15:37). In 2005 Daouda Sow was again French runner-up in lightweight (up to 60 kg body weight). He lost in the final against Khedafi Djelkhir by breaking off in the third round. In the same year he convinced in two international matches. In Sannois he defeated Idel Torriente clearly on points in an international match against Cuba and in Lingolsheim he also defeated Artur Schmidt on points in an international match against Germany (25:15). In the same year he started at the Francophonie Games in Niamey , Niger , in featherweight (up to 57 kg body weight). He defeated Aboubakr Lbida from Morocco on points (33:23) and Achille Apie from Cameroon by breaking off in the second round. In the final battle he lost to Yassin Yasngaber from Egypt on points (14:22).

In 2006 Daouda Sow worked as an educator in a home for the reintegration of difficult-to-educate young people and hardly had time to box. In 2007, however, the French boxing federation remembered the great talent Daouda Sow and promoted him accordingly. As a result, he was the first French lightweight champion in 2007 with a victory over the old master Dagnoko Boubacar . In 2007 he also started at the chemistry cup tournament in Halle (Saale) . There he won over Kalojan Dimow from Bulgaria on points (23: 6), but lost in the final against Artur Schmidt and finished second.

At the championship of the European Union in 2007 in Dublin , he then won his first title. He defeated the lightweight Florentin Nicolescu from Romania on points, Andrzej Liczik from Poland by breaking off in the third round and Domenico Valentino from Italy by breaking off in the second round. In the final he defeated the German Eugen Burhard and won this tournament. With no small expectations he started in October 2007 at the World Championships in Chicago . But there he lost his first fight against Romal Amanow from Azerbaijan and was not among the last 32 boxers.

After this disappointment, Daouda Sow only had to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . Like all French boxers, he started well prepared for the Olympic Games in Beijing . In the lightweight he defeated the North Korean Kim Song-guk , who had won a bronze medal in Chicago after all , clearly on points (13: 3), then he defeated José Pedraza from Puerto Rico , the vice-world champion of 2009 Points (13: 9). In his third fight he met the Chinese Hu Qing . He was not deterred by the fanatical Chinese audience, who of course cheered on their compatriot frenetically, and won narrowly but certainly with 9: 6 rating points. In the semifinals, Daouda Sow won against Yordenis Ugás , the actual favorites in the lightweight division, a sure point win (15: 8). In the final, he then faced the Russian European champion from 2006 Alexei Tishchenko , against whom he lost just on points (9:11).

In 2009, Sow became French champion again before moving into professional business.

He won his professional debut on July 4, 2009 against the Austrian Ömer Yılmaz. In July 2011, he won the French lightweight championship against Affif Hamdani and defended the title against Brahim Bariz. In March 2016 he lost just on points to Renald Garrido and in April 2017 unanimously to Yazid Amghar.
