Eugen Burhard (born February 24, 1987 ) is a German boxer .

Career

Eugen Burhard started boxing as a teenager in Gifhorn . In the course of his career he started first in featherweight and then in lightweight. Once he reached the German top class, he started for Raspo Osnabrück , the BR Hertha BSC and the SV Motor Babelsberg in the German Bundesliga.

As a junior, he took second place in featherweight at the Brandenburg Cup in Frankfurt (Oder) in 2004 and 2005. Outgrowing the junior age, he became German runner-up in the lightweight championship in 2007. In the final of this championship he was defeated by Artur Schmidt on points. In 2007 Eugen Burhard was used at the championship of the European Union in Dublin in the lightweight and fought his way into the final with victories over Theodoras Papasov, Greece, Thomas Stalker , England, and Alejandro Rodriguez, Spain , in which against the French Daouda Sow lost on points.

In 2008 Eugen Burhard was again German runner-up in the lightweight. He had the bad luck that he had to be taken out of the fight in the final against Artur Schmidt due to an injury.

In 2009 he succeeded in winning the German championship title for the first time. He beat his old rival Artur Schmidt on points in the final battle (9: 6). He was also in excellent shape at the European Union Championship in Odense . He won there over Gabriel Podascu, Romania, Filip Palić , Croatia, and Thomas Stalker from England and won this championship. He was also able to convince in the lightweight at the 2009 World Championships in Milan . There he defeated Ibrahim Kamal, Canada , Miklós Varga , Hungary , and Jai Bhagwan, India, and only lost in the quarterfinals to Koba Pchakadse , from Georgia, with which he took a good 5th place.

At the 2010 European Championships in Moscow , Eugen Burhard landed his greatest success in his career so far, because he won the lightweight with victories over Ara Puluzjan, Armenia, and Wasgen Safarjanz , Belarus , and a defeat in the semifinals against Thomas Stalker (2: 5) a bronze medal.

In May 2011 Eugen defeated Burhard in the so-called "Round Robin" tour. in Schwedt / Oder the 2010 Olympic Youth Champion Arthur Brill , SC Colonia Köln , on points and thus secured the ticket to the 2011 World Championships . Here he reached after Siegen u. a. via Joseph Cordina , Wales (13: 7), the last sixteen, which he lost to Fazliddin Gʻoibnazarov , Uzbekistan (8: 7).

In 2012 Burhard became German light welterweight champion (up to 64 kg) with a final victory over Angelo Welp . The following year he lost in the final of the German championships against Artem Harutiunian .
