John Joe "Johnny" Joyce (born October 17, 1987 in Limerick ) is a retired Irish boxer . He won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Liverpool in 2008 and was an Olympic participant in Beijing in 2008 , both times in the light welterweight division.

He is a cousin of boxers David Joyce and Joe Ward .

John Joyce belonged to the BC St. Michael's Athy and was trained there by Dominic O'Rourke. He was Irish lightweight champion in 2006 and 2007, Irish light welterweight champion in 2008 and Irish welterweight champion in 2010.

He is also a bronze medalist at the 2003 European School Championships and the 2005 European Junior Championships. He was also quarter-finalist at the 2003 and 2004 European Cadet Championships, the 2003 Cadet World Championships and the 2006 Junior World Championships.

In April 2008 he won the European Olympic light welterweight qualification in Athens by defeating Zdeněk Chládek , Geworg Galstjan, Harun Sipahi and Egidijus Kavaliauskas . He then took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and beat Gyula Káté in the preliminary round before he was eliminated in the round of 16 with 11: 11+ against the eventual Olympic champion Félix Díaz .

In November 2008 he won a bronze light welterweight medal at the European Championships in Liverpool . This time he failed in the semifinals to Gyula Káté after defeating Dimitar Shtiljanow in the quarterfinals .

At the 2007 World Championships and the 2010 European Championships, he remained medalless.
