Egidijus Kavaliauskas

Egidijus Kavaliauskas (* 29. June 1988 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian boxer in the welterweight division . Kavaliauskas was third in the 2011 World Cup and participated in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games .

Amateur career

2006 Kavaliauskas took part in the Lithuanian championships for the first time and was runner-up in the lightweight (-60 kg). In the same year he also started in the Junior World Championships (U19), but he was eliminated early.

At the 2007 World Championships , Kavaliauskas was eliminated in the preliminary round , as was the case at the European Championships the following year. In 2008 he was also the first Lithuanian light welterweight champion (-64 kg), a success that he was able to repeat in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Since Kavaliauskas had missed the Olympic qualification at the 2007 World Cup, he took part in the two European Olympic qualification tournaments in Pescara and Athens in 2008 , where he failed in Pescara in the semifinals against Gyula Káté , Hungary (18:10), but reached the final in Athens , whereby he qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , where he was eliminated in the first fight against Alexis Vastine , France (13-2).

At the 2009 World Championships , Kavaliauskas reached the quarter-finals after victories over Masatsugu Kawachi , Japan (8: 5), Qalim Balla, Australia (20: 5), and Zdeněk Chládek , Czech Republic (10: 6), which he did, however, against the eventual runner-up Frankie Gomez , USA (RSC 3rd), lost prematurely and also failed at the European Championships in 2010 .

Kavaliauskas was able to celebrate his first medal win at the World Championships 2011 in welterweight (-69 kg) when, after victories over Maimatti Tusunqiong, China (20:16), Robert Bilik, Czech Republic ((15: 4), Roy Sheahan, Ireland (11 : 7), and Fred Evans , Wales (RSC 2nd), and a semi-final defeat against Serik Säpijew , Kazakhstan (AB 2nd), won the bronze medal.

With this placement he also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he lost in the first fight against local heroes Fred Evans (11: 7).

Professional career

In March 2013 he made his debut with the professionals and has beaten Benjamin Whittaker (7-0) and Deniz Ilbay (15-0) , among others . On September 22, 2017, he defeated Mahonry Montes (33-6) in the fight for the NABF welterweight title and defended it on February 16, 2018 against Dawid Awanessjan .
