Gyula Káté (born February 3, 1982 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian boxer .

Career

National championships

In the adult category, Gyula Káté was Hungarian lightweight champion in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and Hungarian light welterweight champion in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. He beat Balázs Bácskai three times .

Youth & Juniors

In 1998 he won a bronze medal in the weight category up to 51 kg at the European Cadet Championships in Latvia . At the European Junior Championships in Croatia in 1999 , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Vitali Tajbert .

In 2000 he won the featherweight world championships in Hungary with victories against Stelian Bugheata, Roman Hadjilenco, Ildas Seroglasow, Chayser Saydametow and Boris Georgiev .

EU championships

At the EU championships in Italy in 2005 and in Hungary in 2006, he won gold medals, silver medals in Poland in 2008 and Denmark in 2009 , and a bronze medal in Ireland in 2007 . He defeated Boris Georgiev and John Joyce twice , while he suffered defeats against Ionu Gheorghe , Frankie Gavin and Bradley Saunders . He achieved all successes in the light welterweight division.

European championships

At his first European championships in Russia in 2002 , he lost in the first fight against Alexander Maletin . In 2004 in Croatia he then won a bronze medal in the lightweight after a semi-final defeat by Dimitar Shtiljanow . He won another bronze medal in the light welterweight division in Bulgaria in 2006 after the semi-finals against Oleg Komissarow .

In 2008 in England and 2010 in Russia he was each runner-up in the European light welterweight division after defeats in the final against Eduard Hambardsumjan and Hratschik Jawachjan . In 2011 in Turkey he was defeated in the quarter-finals against Vincenzo Mangiacapre , whom he had defeated at the 2010 European Championship.

World championships

At the World Championships , he went to Northern Ireland for the first time in 2001 and lost the featherweight in the first duel against Majid Jelili. 2003 in Thailand he moved in the lightweight against Sergio Priotti, Wladimir Kolesnik, Takashi Uchiyama and Dilschod Machmudow in the semi-finals and was eliminated there against Mario Kindelán with a bronze medal. 2005 in Mianyang he lost again in the light welterweight division in the first fight against Chen Tongzhou.

In 2007 in the USA he defeated John Joyce and Myke Carvalho before losing to Gennady Kovalyov in the round of 16 . 2009 in Italy he was only eliminated in the semi-finals 7: 8 against Frankie Gomez and thus won a bronze medal in the light welterweight division. He had previously defeated Rustam Swajew, Myke Carvalho, Abdur Rahim and Apichet Sansit.

In 2011 in Azerbaijan , he beat Yevgeny Romashkevich, Yves Ulysse and Danijar Jeleussinow before losing to Éverton Lopes in the quarter-finals .

Olympic games

Gyula Káté has participated in the Olympic Games three times . 2004 in Athens and 2008 in Beijing he lost in the lightweight in the first fight against Baik Jong-Sub and John Joyce . In 2012 in London he started light welterweight and defeated Eslam Aly before being eliminated in the round of 16 against Vincenzo Mangiacapre .

He is the winner of the 2004 World University Championships in Turkey , defeating Wiktor Postol , among others .
