Bradley Saunders (born February 4, 1986 in Stockton-on-Tees ) is an English professional boxer .
Among the amateurs, he won a bronze medal at the 2007 world light welterweight championships .
Amateur career
Bradley Saunders is the brother of boxer Jeff Saunders, is nicknamed "Buzzing", lives in South Durham and was a member of ABC (Amateur Boxing Club) Durham , where he started boxing when he was ten. In his youth he won four English student championships and two English junior championships, was winner of the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games in Australia and quarter-finalist of the 2004 Junior World Championships in South Korea .
For adults he took part in the 2006 EU championships in Hungary , where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Boris Georgiev . In 2007 he was English light welterweight champion and also won the silver medal at the EU championships in Ireland after he was only defeated in the final against Marcin Łęgowski .
At the 2007 World Championships in Chicago , he won a bronze light welterweight medal. With wins against Boris Katalinić, Gumersindo Carrasco, Javier Molina and Alexis Vastine , he made it to the semi-finals, where he lost to Gennadi Kowaljow .
He was then qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and defeated Samuel Neequaye in the preliminary round, but lost this time in the second fight against Alexis Vastine. In 2009 he won the EU championships in Denmark with a final victory against Gyula Káté .
In 2010 he started at the Commonwealth Games in India and won the silver medal in the light welterweight division. In the semifinals he had defeated Richarno Colin , but was defeated in the final against Manoj Kumar . At the 2010 European Championships in Russia he lost the first fight against Samir Machrouh.
In addition, Saunders won the Presidents Cup 2008 in Taiwan and Gee-Bee Tournament 2009 in Finland , among others, defeating Samir Machrouh, Babou Smaila, Masatsugu Kawachi , Manus Boonjumnong , Hastings Bwalya and Egidijus Kavaliauskas , among others .
In total, he won 164 of 183 amateur fights.
Professional career
Under the promoter Frank Warren and the trainer Danny Vaughan Saunders switched to the professional camp and won his debut on February 10, 2012 in London . In June 2014 he defeated the Finns Ville Piispanen by knockout in the first round and thereby became WBO Intercontinental Light Welterweight Champion . He has also been promoted by Eddie Hearn since 2014.
On September 19, 2015, he boxed in Liverpool against the Frenchman Renald Garrido, who was intended as a build-up opponent, but was in trouble and on the verge of a knockout defeat before he was disqualified for a headbutt in the sixth round and thus his first professional defeat suffered. He then did not fight for more than 21 months. He has been trained by Peter Sims since 2016.
