Javier Molina (born January 2, 1990 in Commerce , California ) is an American boxer .

Career

Javier Molina is the son of a Mexican family who immigrated to the United States . He grew up in Commerce , California . His father was an amateur boxer in Mexico and his older brother boxed too. It was therefore natural that he and his twin brother Óscar Molina also started boxing at the age of nine at the Commerce Boxing Club . Javier Molina attends John Glenn High School in Norwalk , Calif. and plans to study at UCLA after graduation.

Javier Molina developed into an excellent counter boxer with his trainer Roberto Luna. In 2006 he was American junior lightweight champion and was then sent to the Junior World Championship (Cadets) in Istanbul . He won there in the lightweight over the local Karadenic Sefa on points (11: 7) and also defeated Coladimir Sidorow from Russia with 22: 8 goals. In the semifinals he lost to Denis Lazarew from Ukraine on points (18:23). He won the bronze medal with it .

In 2007, at the age of seventeen, Javier Molina started exclusively with seniors. At the National Golden Gloves he won the light welterweight first against Jeremy Caughem on points, but lost to Jeremy Bryan with a controversial 2: 3 judges votes and had to retire early. Until the USA championships, which took place a few months later, he had matured further and defeated light welterweight a. a. the two-time USA champion Karl Dargan just but surely on points (31:27). In the final he also won over Brad Solomon on points (17:13) and was the first US champion. While from the US Light welterweight boxing association Karl Dargan was used at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and won there, Javier Molina was allowed to represent the USA at the World Championships in Chicago . He won there against Rikardo Smith from Jamaica (37:16) and against Emil Maharramow from Azerbaijan (27:10) on points but was defeated in the round of 16 against Bradley Saunders from England on points (12:24). As a loser in the round of 16, he finished 9th with the seven other losers in the round of 16.

Shortly before these world championships, Javier Molina had qualified in Houston at the US Olympic Trials for participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing in the light welterweight division. He achieved this with the following victories: point winner over Samuel Martinez (26: 7), point winner over Jeremy Bryan (27:20), point winner over Dan O'Connor (18:10) and point winner over Danny Garcia (26:12).

Since October 2007, Javier Molina and his comrades from the US Olympic team have been boxing at the performance center in Colorado Springs , preparing for the Olympic Games. So in 2008 it started very sparingly. The most important start for him was the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games of the America Group in Port of Spain on Trinidad . Javier Molina won there over Myke Carvalho from Brazil (4: 1) and Matthew Robinson from Barbados (11: 4) on points and then lost in the semifinals to Rosniel Iglesias from Cuba on points (4:10). In the fight for the third place, which is important for participating in the Olympics, he then defeated Kevon Bizier from Canada on points. In the last test of the US national team, Javier Molina defeated his opponent Luis Gonzalez in the international match against Puerto Rico in June 2008 by breaking off in the 3rd round.

In addition to Javier Molina, his twin brother Oscar Molina will also compete in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . Not for the USA, but for Mexico. Oscar Molina could not qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing in the United States, but managed to do so in Mexico and was also able to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games at the American qualifying tournament in Port of Spain. He starts in the welterweight division and will therefore not meet his brother Javier in Beijing.

Whether the concept of the US national relay works, to concentrate fully on the preparation for the Olympic Games in Colorado Springs and to make only a few starts in 2008, the boxers of the Olympic team did not participate in either the USA championships in 2008 or in the National Golden Gloves 2008, will be shown in Beijing.

In Beijing Javier Molina lost his first fight against Boris Georgiev from Bulgaria clearly on points (1:14). He was eliminated early and remained unplaced.
