Óscar Molina Casillas (born January 2, 1990 ) is a Mexican professional light middleweight boxer .

Youth and family

Óscar Molina was born in Chihuahua, Mexico , but emigrated with his family to the USA, where he grew up and went to school in California . His father is the former professional boxer Miguel Molina, his twin brother Javier Molina is also a boxer and was an Olympic competitor in the USA from 2008. His older brother Carlos Molina (* 1985) is also a professional boxer and fought against Amir Khan in 2012 for a WBC title.

Amateur career

He started boxing at the age of eight, fought exclusively welterweight and won 142 of 168 amateur fights. In 2007 he won the Mexican Elite Championships (adults) and started in March and April 2008 at the American Olympic qualifications in Port of Spain and Guatemala City ; with three wins and two defeats, however, he only finished 3rd and 5th, which is why he was denied an Olympic appearance. He suffered one of his defeats against the Cuban Carlos Banteur , the other just barely (8: 9) against the Venezuelan Omar Moreno. For this he won the gold medal at the World Youth Championships in Guadalajara in November 2008 . He had clearly prevailed against Jess Ross (Australia), Marcos Nader (Austria), Bogdan Juratoni (Romania), David Joyce (Ireland) and Boturjon Machmudow (Uzbekistan).

In May 2012 he started at the American Olympic qualification in Rio de Janeiro , where he made it to the finals by winning against Nathan Ridings from El Salvador, Brian Castano from Argentina and Gabriel Maestre from Venezuela and only there he was eliminated against the Brazilian Myke Carvalho . By achieving second place, however, he was automatically qualified for the Summer Olympics in London that started in October . There he was already defeated in the preliminary round against the Canadian Custio Clayton with 8:12 on points.

In addition, Molina was also participants in the world championships of 2009 in Milan (second round) and 2011 in Baku (preliminary round).

Professional career

In October 2012 he and his brother Javier signed a professional contract with Goossen Tutor Promotions , where Arnulfo Bravo will manage and train him. He then made his professional debut on January 26, 2013 in Chihuahua and won against Héctor Mendoza by unanimous decision. In his following seven fights, he won each time early within five rounds. His fourth fight was also his debut on the US television channel ESPN .

In September 2015 he boxed a draw against the also undefeated Dominique Dolton (17-0). He suffered his first professional defeat in June 2016 against Jarrett Hurd (17-0).
