Marcos Nader (born March 1, 1990 in Ibiza , Spain ) is an Austrian professional middleweight boxer .

Life

Nader was born on the Spanish island of Ibiza as the son of the Austrian Roman Nader - from 2010 President of the Austrian Boxing Association (ÖBV) - and a Serb. His parents lived on the island for ten years and ran two restaurants there. One year after his birth, the family moved back to Vienna, where Nader also completed the new secondary school Lacknergasse in Vienna's 18th district and the sports trade school. He came to boxing through his older brother and trainer Daniel Nader. He lives and trains in Vienna and Berlin. Marcos Nader is married to "Miss Vienna 2009", Sandra Soknic (born June 22, 1990 in Vienna), with whom he attended secondary school.

Marcos Nader appeared in the 2016 documentary Punch Line - A woman climbs into the ring with Kati Zambito . In 2020 it was announced that Nader will also be participating in the 13th season of Dancing Stars .

Athletic career

Amateur career

Nader started boxing when he was 8 years old. As an amateur, he won 83 of 98 fights (more than 40 of them prematurely) and boxed five draws. In 2004 he won the bronze medal at the European Schoolchildren Championship (U15) in Hungary and in 2006 also the bronze medal at the European Cadet Championship (U17) in Albania, where he clearly defeated Enrico Kölling on points in the quarter-finals . He also took part in the 2006 Cadet World Cup in Turkey . There he lost, however, in the first fight against the later gold medalist Jalambek Bajsangurow, the younger brother of the boxer Saurbek Bajsangurow , very controversial with 9:19 on points.

Nader won tournaments in Austria , Germany , Poland and the Czech Republic . In the Czech Republic and Poland, for example, he won twice against the strong Poland Maciej Sulęcki the second time without a fight, by WO of the opponent. He became Austrian welterweight champion in 2007 and 2008, in 2007 with a special permit, as he was still too young at that time (17) and was only allowed to participate with the approval of the boxing association. He also took part in the Olympic qualification for Beijing in Athens in 2008, but lost the first controversial fight against the Armenian Samuel Matewosjan on points. Matewosjan could also not qualify for the Olympic Games later.

At the 13th International Brandenburg Cup in Frankfurt (Oder) , which is considered one of the most important international amateur boxing tournaments in Germany, Nader started in the welterweight division. He defeated Croatian champion Matej Dujić 15-1 on points in the preliminary round, French Reda Saad 24:17 in the quarter-finals, German U-21 champion Sebastian Knigge 17:10 in the semifinals and finally the German Bundesliga boxer Satula Abdulai in the final with 14:12. He qualified automatically for the Youth World Championships (U-19) in Mexico in 2008. There he won the first fight again against the Frenchman Reda Saad with 18: 9 on points, but was defeated in the second round of the Mexican and later gold medalist Óscar Molina 1: 8 on points.

During his amateur days he boxed almost exclusively at welterweight.

Professional career

After his amateur career, he signed a professional contract with the German Sauerland boxing stable in January 2009 . His professional debut took place on March 14, 2009 as a preliminary to a world championship fight by Arthur Abraham and he defeated his first opponent, the Egyptian Fares Sahawneh, who lives in Italy, on points. At the beginning of his professional career, he mainly fought against opponents in order to get used to the changed conditions in the professional camp. His trainers are his brother Daniel Nader, who trains with him at the Bounce boxing club in Vienna's 16th district, and Otto Ramin von Sauerland.

On March 24, 2010 he should have boxed in a Super-Six duel in Denmark , but was not allowed due to his age due to the lack of special permission. His boxing colleague Thomas Troelenberg was sent as a substitute .

On May 7, 2011 he defeated the former IBF Junior World Champion Salvatore Annunziata by unanimous decision, and on July 16, 2011, the multiple Italian champion Gaetano Nespro by unanimous decision. On August 27, 2011, he prematurely won against the former International and Intercontinental Champion of the IBF, Giammario Grassellini. Grassellini gave up the fight in the break between the 7th and 8th round after heavy hits.

On November 2, 2012 boxed Nader in Schwechat near Vienna to the EU -Titel the EBU middleweight. His opponent was the 31-year-old Spaniard Roberto Santos, who had won the title in September 2012 by an early win against Nader's stable colleague Dominik Britsch (26-0). Nader boxed for the first time in his career over twelve rounds and reached a draw after an even duel against Santos, whereby the Spaniard remained the title holder.

In the rematch on April 14, 2013 in Schwechat, Nader won unanimously on points and thus became the new EU middleweight champion. It was also his officially 100th victory in a boxing match. His first title defense was planned for September 14, 2013 against the Spanish southpaw Luis Crespo, who had also managed a win against Santos in December 2011. Due to an injury to Marco Huck , who was to play the main fight of the evening against Fırat Arslan , the event and thus Nader's fight was canceled. October 26, 2013 was announced as the new date. Nader then won by giving up his opponent in the sixth round.

He played his second title defense on January 25, 2014 in Stuttgart against the unbeaten Italian Emanuele Blandamura (21-0) and lost in the end by a majority decision of the judges.

A few months later, after his contract had expired, he announced the separation from Sauerland. In August 2014, he signed a contract with AIBA Pro-Boxing .

AIBA Pro Boxing

Marcos Nader then boxed in the Pro Boxing (APB) tournament of the amateur boxing association AIBA . For the first time, this offered professional boxers the opportunity to qualify for the Summer Olympics. Previously this was only possible for amateurs. Nader lost his first fight against the Kenyan Rayton Okwiri in Baku by knockout in the second round. In his second fight against Eimantas Stanionis from Lithuania, he suffered a unanimous loss on points.

comeback

After a long break from injury, Nader wanted to get back into the ring in 2017. A planned duel with Gogi Knežević was supposed to take place in June 2017, but was canceled. It wasn't until April 7, 2018 that he got back into the ring and defeated the Serb Darko Kneževic by knockout in the second round.

On October 13, 2018, he unanimously defeated Dejan Milićević in the fight for the Austrian middleweight championship. On April 13, 2019, he defeated Gogi Knežević by TKO in the eighth round and thus became IBF International Middleweight Champion. He unanimously defended the title on November 23, 2019 against the previously undefeated Italian Khalil El Harraz.
