Amateur career

Baissangurow was Russian featherweight cadet champion in 2001 and Russian junior light welterweight champion in 2002.

In July 2001 he started at the 6th European Cadet Championships in Liverpool , where he won the gold medal in the featherweight division. He defeated the Italian Nunzio Buonerba in the semi-finals and the Turks Sedat Taşçı in the final. In October of the same year he also took part in the 1st Cadet World Championships in Baku , where he moved into the semi-finals in featherweight by beating Yurdenis Thaureaux from Cuba. There he was defeated this time Sedat Taşçı and thus won a bronze medal.

In September 2002 he won a bronze light welterweight medal at the 12th Junior World Championships in Santiago de Cuba . After victories against Aslan Bajramow from Azerbaijan, Hwang Ryong from South Korea and the Mexican Juan de Dios Navarro, he was again in the semifinals, where he lost to the Cuban Vilier Quinones.

In August 2003 he was still able to win the gold medal in the welterweight division at the 18th European Junior Championships in Warsaw . He defeated Mindaugas Spakauskas from Lithuania, Dian Petrow from Bulgaria, Stefan Dragomir from Romania, Serhij Derewjantschenko from Ukraine and Rahib Bəylərov from Azerbaijan.

Professional career

In 2004 he became a professional in the Ukraine and boxed for the first time in Germany on November 20, when he was signed by Kempten alongside Nikolai Walujew , Arthur Abraham and Marco Huck at an event of Sauerland Event in BigBOX Allgäu . Despite a fractured hand, he defeated the undefeated Argentine Pablo Martin Paoliello (6-0) unanimously on points. In February 2005 he beat the Berlin amateur record champion Adnan Özcoban (2-0) prematurely in the fourth round in the Berlin Max-Schmeling-Halle .

On September 16, 2005, he secured the IBF youth world championship title in middleweight in his eleventh professional fight in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine . His undefeated opponent Daniel Urbanski (5: 0) from Poland had to be taken out of the fight by the referee due to inferiority. As early as December 10, 2005, he secured the IBF Youth World Championships in the light middleweight division in Leipzig with an early win against the Argentine Juan Manuel Alaggio (15: 1). Alaggio had to accept two knockdowns and was finally taken out of the fight in the ninth round by the referee after a heavy impact hit.

In January 2006 he defended the title early in Berlin against John Chibuta (6: 2) from Zambia and in April 2006 also early against László Burányi (20: 3) from Hungary. In the fight for the WBC International Light Middleweight Championship on September 23, 2006 in Kiev , he had to go to the ground against Marco Antonio Rubio (34: 3) for the first time, but ultimately won against the Mexican by unanimous decision. In his next fight on July 7, 2007 in Cologne , he defeated the Frenchman Hussein Bayram (24-2) also unanimously on points and thus won the vacant European title of the EBU in the light middleweight division.

After two early title defenses against Roman Dzhuman (23-4) and Ion Gonta (18-1), he suffered his first defeat as a professional on December 13, 2008 in Mannheim against Cornelius Bundrage (28: 4). Shortly before the end of the fifth round, he went to the ground due to an American right and then suffered from balance problems, which is why the referee ended the fight in favor of Bundrage.

On May 30, 2009 he was in Kiev with a knockout victory in the first round against the Italian Cristian De Martinis (22: 2), the new intercontinental champion of the WBA in the light middleweight division. Until the end of the year he defended the title early against Eromosele Albert (22: 2) and Frank Shabani (18: 1). By a TKo win in the twelfth round against Richard Gutierrez (26: 4), he became on December 4, 2010 in Brovary world champion of the IBO in the light middleweight division.

On July 30, 2011 he became interim world champion of the WBO in the light middleweight division; he defeated the Brazilian Mike Miranda (34: 3) by knockout in the first round. On October 5, 2011, the WBO named him the new regular world champion in the light middleweight division, since title holder Serhij Dsindsiruk had not defended his title for too long and was therefore stripped of his world championship belt.

On May 12, 2012 Baysangurow won unanimously on points against the French Michel Soro (18: 0) and on October 6, 2012 also unanimously against the Czech Lukáš Konečný (48-3).

Due to a training injury, he was unable to defend his title against Demetrius Andrade in mid-2013 , which is why the WBO stripped him of the title. Andrade then secured the now vacant title in November 2013 by beating Wanes Martirosijan on points.

On April 12, 2014 he was again world champion of the IBO in the light middleweight division. He defeated the Argentine Guido Pitto (18-2) in the Ukraine by tKo in the twelfth round.
