Red Towers

Red Towers is the name of a villa in the Scottish town of Helensburgh . The building is on Upper Colquhoun Street in the north of the city. In 1971 the villa was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

history

The builder of the Red Towers was the merchant James Allan . As an architect, William Leiper , who also designed other villas in Helensburgh, was responsible for the planning. The work was completed in 1898. Later, an elderly care facility was set up in the building, for which minor changes had to be made to the rear of the building. Today a drug rehab facility is housed in the Red Towers.

Red Towers is also a striking building in Helensburgh because of its location in a lofty position. It has architectural features of French Renaissance castles, while other motifs are borrowed from traditional Scottish architecture of the 17th century or the designs of the English architect Richard Norman Shaw . Red Towers has an L-shaped floor plan. The facades are made of red sandstone . All windows and entrance doors are faced with sandstone . The roofs are covered with gray or green slate shingles.
