Lukáš Konečný (born July 19, 1978 in Brno ) is a Czech professional boxer , former EBU European champion and former WBO European middleweight champion.

amateur

Lukáš Konečný won 230 out of 257 fights as an amateur and was Czech champion five times. At the 14th European Junior Championships in Hungary in 1995 , he won the silver medal in the lightweight. He had defeated Petri Palomäki from Finland, Traian Kocev from Macedonia, Patrick Mowgray from Ireland and Vladimir Khodakovskiy from Ukraine before losing to the Romanian Dorel Simion in the final .

At the 9th World Championships in Budapest in 1997, he defeated the Canadian Jeremy Molitor, the Poles Jacek Bielski and Gerry Legras from the Seychelles, before he lost again in the semifinals to the Romanian Dorel Simion and thus won the bronze medal in the light welterweight division. Also at the 1999 World Championships in Houston , he was able to win the bronze medal in the light welterweight division. He beat Michael Strange from Canada, Sahib Bagirov from Azerbaijan and Diógenes Luna from Cuba before losing to the Uzbek Muhammadqodir Abdullayev .

In 2000 he represented the Czech Republic at the 27th Summer Olympic Games in Sydney , where he was eliminated in the first round against the Algerian Mohamed Allalou.

Professional career

Konečný has been a professional since June 2001. He stands at the Magdeburg SES - Boxing stable under contract.

After winning eight development fights , he boxed on April 13, 2002 in Ilsenburg for the international German championship in light middleweight against the Albanian Artur Drinaj and won by knockout in the third round. He then defended the title twice early against Khoren Gevor .

On October 17, 2003, he won the EBU's EU light middleweight title by unanimous victory over French Aziz Daari . On September 10, 2004 he lost the title in Madrid by a narrow split decision to the Spaniard Rubén Varón (24-3).

On September 20, 2005 he was knocked out against the Brazilian Anderson Clayton (19-3), intercontinental champion of the WBO in the light middleweight division, but failed in the fight for the European Championship of the EBU in March 2006 by losing points to Michele Piccirillo (44- 3).

In May 2006, however, he won the IBF Intercontinental Championship by winning points against Ante Bilić (15-0) and defeated, among others, Mehdi Azri (12-4) and Roman Dzhuman (23-3).

On April 26, 2008 he boxed in Dresden against Serhij Dsindsiruk (34-0) for the world title of the WBO in light middleweight, but lost by point decision. In March 2009 he won the EBU's EU title again by winning points against Jimmy Colas (26-4).

On September 18, 2010 he defeated Matthew Hall (23-2) by knockout in the sixth round and was thereby European champion of the EBU in the light middleweight division. He then defended the title by winning points against the Swiss Hamlet Petrosyan (29-6) and the French Hussein Bayram (34-3).

On April 5, 2012 he was in Brno by a knockout victory against the French Salim Larbi (16-1), interim world champion of the WBO in the light middleweight division. His second attempt to secure the WBO World Championship belt failed on October 6, 2012 when he lost points to Saurbek Bajsangurow (27-1).

Against Karim Achour (14-3) he won the title of WBO European Champion in March 2013 and defended it against Moez Fhima (22-2) in July. On April 19, 2014 he boxed for the third time for the WBO World Championship, but lost again to Peter Quillin (30-0).

Others

His father Milan Konečný was also a professional boxer until 2004 and was an opponent of Thomas Ulrich and Alexander Petkovic, among others . Lukáš Konečný has been married since 2003 and has a daughter (* 2003). At the end of 2005 a pair of twin girls was added.
