Khoren Gevor (actually Choren Geworgjan , Armenian Խորեն Գեվորգյան ; born March 16, 1980 in Etschmiadzin ) is a former Armenian professional boxer. He also trains his stepson Noel Gevor .
Career
After an amateur career with 72 wins in 75 fights and six Armenian championship titles, Gevor switched to the professional camp in 2000. He was signed in Germany by the Hamburg boxing stable Universum Box-Promotion . His trainer was Fritz Sdunek . Khoren Gevor is known for his technique and agility.
Gevor had to accept his first two defeats in 2002 in two fights for the International German Light Middleweight Championship against the Czech Lukáš Konečný . He lost both fights due to lacerations over the eyes caused by head butts by the Czech. Since then he has fought for the intercontinental titles of the associations WBO , IBF and the European title EBU in the middleweight division and defeated boxers like Sergej Tatevosyan, Gustavo Magallanes, Franck Mezaache and Rafael Sosa Pintos.
On August 18, 2007 he boxed in Berlin against his compatriot Arthur Abraham for the IBF World Middleweight Championship and lost by knockout towards the end of the eleventh round. After a strong start he seemed to dominate the fight and led on points until the 10th round.
Since then, Gevor has defeated Nicolas Perillo and Samir Barbosa. Gevor has now applied for German citizenship.
On November 28, 2008 Khoren defeated the Finn Amin Asikainen by technical knockout in the seventh round and thereby fought for the European Middleweight Championship. The fight took place in the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki / Finland in front of almost 10,000 spectators. It was the biggest boxing event the Finns had seen in about 20 years.
On July 11, 2009, Gevor lost to Felix Sturm after a unanimous decision on points. In a build-up battle followed a points win on January 9, 2010 against the Brazilian Jeferson Luis Goncalo . Then Gevor was defeated on points on July 31, 2010 against Dimitri Sartison for the WBA World super middleweight title.
On April 9, 2011, he competed for the WBO world title against Robert Stieglitz . After Gevor was noticed by improper actions during the fight and had already been warned, both boxers went to the ground in the tenth round after a headbutt during the subsequent clamps. Stieglitz pulled a laceration over his right eye. Gevor was then disqualified by referee Manfred Küchler, whereupon Gevor caused a scandal by attacking Küchler and having to be led out of the hall by officials and supervisors. After the incident, Gevor was banned from the Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer for six months. In addition, he has to pay a fine of € 5100. Before, two days after the scandal, he personally apologized to Küchler. According to the BDB President Thomas Pütz, the punishment was not harsher because Manfred Küchler accepted Gevor's apology and did not demand any more severe sanctions. “In addition, we naturally included in the decision that Khoren shows himself to be understanding and regrets his action. In addition, he has been known to us for years as an impeccable sportsman, so we are assuming an act of affect and have set the sentence accordingly. "
The sentence was then reduced to three months to give Gevor another title chance.
Gevor fought on July 15, 2011 in Göppingen in the EWS Arena against defending champion Nikola Sjekloća for the WBC International Super Middleweight Belt. Gevor couldn't score in the first few laps against the bigger opponent who was technically better. In the final laps, Gevor used his chances in the close range, where he was noticeable through unclean actions. The fight was unanimously scored on points (115: 114, 115: 113 and 116: 112) for Sjekloca.
On October 3, 2011, he won in the Netherlands against the Latvian champion Olegs Fedotovs by TKO in round 6.
On December 10, 2011, he boxed in Mechernich against Baker Barakat , who competed here in front of a home crowd. In this fight, the referee Paji Peci also acted as sole judge (GBA ring and judge with sole decision). Shortly after the verdict was announced, which meant a narrow point win for Barakat with 58:57, Gevor attacked the referee with blows, whereupon a wild argument developed inside and outside the ring. Before that, too, went on spectators. Barakat's intervention prevented an even greater commotion and the security forces succeeded in escorting the angry boxer out of the hall. In retrospect, Gevor claimed to have seen the score sheet on which a draw was recorded.
Khoren Gevors last professional fight he played on November 5, 2012 against Maxim Vlasov , where he lost by unanimous decision.
