The Theater Carré is a theater on the Amstel in Amsterdam that has been used as a permanent circus building or large music hall since it was founded in 1887 . Until 1911 and then again since the 100th anniversary in 1987, it was and is allowed to use the designation Royal (Koninklijk) Theater .

The theater was built by the German circus director Oscar Carré as Circus Carré in order to be able to give performances during the winter months. It is architecturally kept in a representative neo-renaissance style. The first performance of the circus took place on December 3, 1887. At the beginning of the 20th century the building was also used for variety and revue performances. Italian operas and operettas were given at times . Dutch stars and international celebrities such as Josephine Baker or the clown Grock performed here.

After the Second World War , musicals , cabaret performances (for example with Herman van Veen ) and pop concerts were added. A circus program is still shown in the winter months. In 2004 the theater was completely renovated, whereby the historical facade and interior design were retained.
